Japanese Font Details?
I've been trying for days to get Japanese fonts flashed to my reader. I renamed and tweaked my fonts (MS ゴシク) and I have succeeded with small sets, I can get hiragana and katakana and a few basic kanji (about 100) in and displayed no problem. However when I start to add more characters, it starts to bomb out while flashing ("Error while flashing partition"). I don't know if it's the size that matters (still under 200k!) or if there is corruption somewhere. (;=_=)
I am writing a little flash-card/quiz building script, so embedding the fonts in each document will bloat storage use immensely, hence the flashing. (The flasher works great, btw - Thanks Igorsk and all) So, to those of you who got Japanese fonts successfully flashed: What exactly did you do? Which font did you use? Did you modify it (beyond renaming)? How did you modify it? Any help you can give me will be appreciated, I'm bashing my head against the wall. And I feel a bit ridiculous over here surrounded by Japanese when I can't even get my own reader to display it. ( ´ο`)=3 Thanks again for any tips ~Dave よろしくね~ |

Sounds like a cool little program, you'll have to let me know when it's working. Is it to learn Japanese Kanji or English? Interesting concept & usage!

Try the following:
in flash_opt.sh line 72 add a parameter to $nblsdm create: if ! $nblsdm create -i $W_DIR/new_opt.img -l 0x700000 Fsk >> $W_LOG 2>&1; then |

I got it! I got it! I got it!
Finally!
It's.... beautiful.... Thanks for your help guys. Actually it turned out I needed to apply the flasher with a new font only immediately after a completely fresh official firmware reset. For some reason, if it wasn't the original firmware I was overwriting the font system went all wonky. I actually shoved the whole 4mb MS ゴシク font on there~~ Anyways yeah I'm setting up a little system to study Japanese vocabulary. Though, the way I'm setting it up it could be used to study anything you'd use flash cards for. Unfortunately I'm not that sophisticated so it's all php based, so I won't be uploading an executable anytime soon, but I will upload finished LRFs. And anyone who wants copies of the code or databases I'm using is welcome. We'll see what we can do! And sorry for bothering you Igorsk, but thanks again~~ |

To be honest, I don't think many people (maybe you are the only one) have Japanese fonts flashed inside their readers.
