@geek1011 The Tolino website now lists the firmware updates for the Shine 5 and Shine color:

This updates from 4.39.x directly to 5.0.175773 (latest):
https://ereaderfiles.kobo.com/firmwa...3/KoboRoot.tgz

And this seems to be a minor bump from 5.0.175772 to 5.0.175773 (latest):

It goes without saying, DO NOT install the above package on Kobo devices, especially any device older than the Libra Colour, and Clara Colour/BW.

Tolino also added a new guide on how to do a manual update on the new devices.

The procedure seems to be identical to manually updating a Kobo device, with the exception that on firmware 5.XX the update file is called "update.tar" instead of "KoboRoot.tgz".

*Exception: manual software update for the tolino shine color and tolino shine (5th generation)
  1. Please note the current software version to check later if the manual update was successful.
  2. Make sure that your tolino eReader is more than 20% charged.
  3. Connect your tolino eReader to the computer using the supplied USB-C cable and tap on “Connect” in the “Computer detected” dialog on your tolino eReader.
  4. Click at the download button of the appropriate software for your tolino eReader and save the downloaded file on your computer
  5. Open the directory view of the tolino eReader in the file explorer. Your tolino eReader will be displayed as an “eReader” drive.
  6. Copy or move the downloaded update file (KoboRoot.tgz’ or update.tar) to the “.kobo” folder. To display the “.kobo” directory on your PC, it is necessary that you have activated the “Show hidden folders” option on your PC.
  7. After the update file (KoboRoot.tgz’ or update.tar) has been successfully copied to the “.kobo” folder, disconnect the USB connection by ejecting the tolino eReader from the PC.
  8. A few seconds after ejecting, your tolino eReader should restart automatically and perform the software update.

Seeing as the uncompressed update.tar file is smaller than the compressed tgz file, I can only take this to mean that Kobo/Tolino no longer intends to push updates as complete image. That might make downgrading Firmware versions in the future.... interesting. Hopefully we can get confirmation that factory reset still works after install this?

I am having issues with the 5.x FW, it does not recognise touch correctly IN ebooks. I click a word and the word 2 lines down gets marked. 100% reproducible and only IN an ebook. Main menu is fine. Any ideas?

Which device are you running the 5.x firmware on since you do not list any Kobo or Tolino devices in your device list?
