I have successfully jail broken my PW2. Having some issues getting screen savers and collections to work but I'll keep persevering and checking the FAQs here.

Oh YES! Thanks to you my KT2 is mine now. (I've tried the serial method last year but I damaged the RX pin, so this was the only option.)

Could anyone point me in the right direction for getting KTerm? Unfortunatelly, the link (http://www.fabiszewski.net/kindle-te...-0.7-5.6.5.zip) is dead. Thanks again!

I think there has been a recent update (to account for the updated graphics libs).

Thanks knc1! In the end I managed to find the latest kterm version.
This morning my Backdoor locked KT2 was auto-updated to 5.7.2.1. After the update the backdoor status was changed to unlocked. How was that possible, and how to prevent future updates happening without my consent?

It seems that ssh daemon needed for USBNetwork cannot be started anymore. Should I re-install the (whole) module? This issue was fixed by re-installing the package.

Also, are firmware downgrades possible for jailbroken devices? New versions seem slower and slower..

anything / everything else must always be re-installed.

It used to be possible, but there have been reports of difficulties with the old methods of manually downgrading.
difficulties to the degree that the Kindle has to be returned for exchange.
So no clear answer can be given at this point.

It was known that most versions of the 5.6.x series could over-ride the backdoor lock.
There are other alternatives being tested, see:

Now that 5.7.xx is in the air, it should not be too long before we hear reports on what works on 5.6.yy.
Which doesn't say anything about what will work on 5.7.xx

Is any one can tell me how to prevent my kindle from auto update when connect the internet?
(Should I do like this thread or just jailbreak it and do nothing else, it will never update automatically)

Hint: Sometimes it can be blamed on the page break.

I have all three alternatives set on my PW-3 . . . .
So I can't say which one(s) work for certain, only that my PW-3 is still running the 5.6.1.1 firmware that it shipped with 8 months ago.

I do wish I had the time to look into what is actually happening, because I know a lot of people are getting tired of 'airplane mode'.
But I just don't have the time and the same is true of nearly ever other one of our regular contributors.

That link isn't dead?

In any event, the folder above that (http://www.fabiszewski.net/kindle-terminal/) is the index page for the kterm extension, and contains full details + canonical links.

I had troubles downloading only that specific file (the other links were OK). Eventually, I managed to download kterm by using elinks browser installed on my Asus RT-N16 router. It took some time, though (some 20+ minutes for 0.7MB). Maybe the traditional browsers that I normally use (Firefox, Chrome or IE/Edge) have a timeout value unsuitable (like too short) for intermittent file transfers.

I downloaded all the kterm extensions. Do you know if anyone compiled Midnight Commander for Kindle and where could I find it? Thanks!

WIFI_NO_NET_PROBE
to the top level of visible USB storage.
