5.6.5 Jailbreak (closed-kindle) -- released!

We are still waiting on Branch Delay to respond to the news.
He still watches posts here and posts himself occasionally -- I promise he hasn't forgotten us.


I assume he may need to update his device and confirm that the exploit is fixed, so that it is safe to release the jailbreak.

Just sit tight -- the end is in sight.

We already have confirmation from @juan_carlos who jailbroke before fw5.6.x, that an installed jailbreak does survive this update.

The jailbreak will likely be released now. Although when is the question of the hour.

Normally If you update after installing the jailbreak you will lose your jailbreak. At present it is unknown for sure if you would lose or keep the jailbreak. We will find out soon enough though!

Well, based on this news, I just ordered a Kindle Voyage, in the hope (based on past experience) that it will still ship with 5.6.5, and in the further hope that the jailbreak will actually be released and be able to be implemented by us non-techs (Branch Delay's "slightly complicated to use" makes me nervous). Will report back on whether I get the old firmware or not.

By the way, I really "like" my Kobo H2O with its custom screensavers and fonts, but when I had a fully jailbroken PW2, I admit, I really "loved" it!

This is absolutely brilliant news! Can't wait to downgrade my Kindle to 5.4.2.1 or something similar. I absolutely abhor the new versions of the software, if I will be able to make this downgrade I'll be eternally grateful to Branch Delay and the community here.

Which model?
You can't (well you should not) downgrade to something older than what it originally shipped with at model introduction.

Amazon would not have spent $$$,$$$ to develop a new firmware version for a new model if the older firmware would have worked.

Mine is a Paperwhite 2 (the older, 2GB version) can't remember exactly which firmware it had shipped with, but after I upgraded to the new version my fonts became too crispy which I really don't like and this font issue stayed the same ever since all the new updates. I even went to a retailer to check if it was the software issue, and it is, I compated it with the same model with the older software and that has perfect font formatting) So I'll just downgrade to one of the older ones, could be 5.4.5 or 5.4.4.1 as well, but whichever works and has nice font will be fine...
