![]() 1. Create 2 plain text files named FONT_RAMP and CJK_FONT_RAMP (the latter only needed if using Chinese characters). Be sure to delete any extension if one is created. 2. Type in the following values: 7.49 8.43 9.37 10.31 11.25 12.19 13.13 14.07 — NEW INFO: as of 5.8.11, you need to input 14 values, not 8
3. Connect Kindle Voyage to computer via USB and copy into root?? When I connect my Kindle and double-click the icon to show what's inside, it shows one folder named "documents" (in which are my ebooks). "Root" would mean copying the text files into the main directory, not into any folders, yes? [Answer: Yes] 4. Restart Kindle. Does all this sound right? If I want to revert to original settings, do I just delete the text files and restart Kindle? [Answer: Yes] Forgive me if the questions are obvious. I am not comfortable playing with stuff like this and need even more hand-holding than shalym ![]() Thank you! Last edited by odamizu; 11-17-2018 at 12:22 AM. Reason: updated info for 5.8.11+ |

Correct, except I have no idea what the default values are and if those particular numbers are the defaults or not.

You must use an editor that inserts *nix line endings, not Windoze or Mac line endings. |

You can recalculate those values in pixels (approximate): 19.2; 21.1; 23; 24.7; 28.6; 33.9; 45.8; 78.9. I calculated few value sets for myself, but only those values worked for me. Don't know why. This article explains how to calculate those values: http://www.the-ebook.org/forum/viewt...424889da87d14b. Article is in russian language, but you can "google translate" it. |

Also, do I need a line ending after the end of the 8 numbers? Last edited by odamizu; 04-24-2015 at 03:28 AM. |

Unix line endings means create and/or edit on linux or OSX (both unix-based systems which default to *nix line endings) and if you use Windows then get decent text editor like Notepad++.
What's the deal with the different characters? An amusing overview: http://blog.codinghorror.com/the-great-newline-schism/ Last edited by eschwartz; 04-23-2015 at 11:42 AM. |

Maybe people who are having problem are using either Wordpad or MS Word instead of notepad? Neither of those will work for working in code, but again...I've been working with scripts and devices for years, and never had a problem with notepad. Shari |

I don't understand what that means? I'm saying that I have successfully used the plain old vanilla notepad app for YEARS to edit config files, scripts, and other code with no issue. I used it to create the 2 text files named FONT_RAMP and CJK_FONT_RAMP that are mentioned in this thread, and it is working just fine on my Kindle Voyage. This is contradictory to what is repeatedly said on this site.
Again, to be perfectly clear...I use the version of notepad that comes with Windows to edit config files, scripts, and web pages, and have never ever, not once, had a problem. I have been doing this since around 1996 or so--I used to use it to edit sql code back when I was in college. Have any of you ever actually had problems created when using notepad? Or is it just repeated from geek to geek that it will kill your code because...WINDOES!! Shari |
