Mangas batch compressing (Windows only)

If you love downloading tons of Mangas, this trick is made for you !

I download a lot of Mangas (with DomDomSoft Manga Downloader).

Here is the following things to do :
1.make sure you resize the downloaded pictures (758x1024 for PW)
(Available in the options of DomDomSoft Manga Downloader. Do not compress/convert).

2.Open your Download folder.
which should be like this : (folder names don't matter)

Your1stManga/Chapter01 (each chapter folder having a lot of pictures)
...................Chapter02
...................Chapter03

Your2ndManga/Chapter01... etc

3.copy and unzip the attached zip file at the root of your download folder.

4.Start the "compress.bat" file. (wait a while until the terminal quit)

It will simply convert all the ".png" files to ".jpg", lower by 50% the quality of the jpg files and delete all the png ones.

you can change the output quality by simply changing the "50%%" value in the "compress.bat" file (for example : "60%%")

I do not recommend less than 50% on PW.

5.Copy the processed folders to your kindle :
-Document/Gallery folder if you are using Komic
-images if you don't have a jailbroken kindle or you don't have/want komic (tested on PW only)
!!! if you use images, copy the subfolders (chapters) only ! not the mangafolders !!!

6.Enjoy !

(You don't need to copy the bat and exe on the kindle it's useless and you can simply execute the compress.bat each time after the 1st use.)

(I made some research and did not find a way to do that so I made it myself).

Decreasing quality of images is just simply a heresy. Images should be properly processed (removing white margins etc.) before uploading to Kindle. Unless you don't care about quality.

I appreciate your work but this solution just simple butcher reading experience.

Well I don't zoom when reading on PW so I decrease the quality to get more mangas on my kindle.

white margin are already removed (my manga downloader does it) and resized.

But if you have other tips to decrease the picture size without decreasing that much the quality, I will gladly listen

OK. But still - simple resize can distort image ratio. After cleaning it should be scaled (not resized) to resolution as close as possible to target device resolution and then all free space around it should be filled with white color.

Process that you performing in conjunction with potentially not very high resolution and probably compressed images can highly reduce quality of image displayed on e-ink screen.

You don't use zoom but it is worth noting: this method blocks any method of high quality zooming as image resolution is too low.

My methods will probably create files bigger than yours. But you might try KCC Normal quality mode.

We just represent two schools. You wan't just slap images on Kindle and read them. And I want achieve maximal possible quality

I agree. I lose image ratio on chapters covers. (There are 2 or 3 pictures that are really bad. I'll try to solve this later. they are just covers, not major for me )

I made this because I did not found it on the web.
I also informed people on how to get a better quality if they want (simply change the value in the bat).

I also agree that we represent 2 opposed points of view :
-Prefer quantity over quality because I read a lot but by short time period. I can't watch over the quality (I am lazy to zoom maybe too, because I can read everything).
I can't access a computer during a week usually so I want to add a lot

I do not pretend to provide THE solution to read mangas. Just the one I use and that was lacking easy processing on the web. It will surely improve in the future.

-You are well more on quality, precision, optimisation but it imply to have access to a computer often if you are a big reader.

I like the fact that the two schools are represented here
It gives more choice !

My technique as a big flaw : It is on windows only.
(because DomDomSoft is only on windows, I did not found such a powerful downloader on linux and also because I don't know much of image resizing/extension deleting in command-line on linux).

I will take screenshots with the two methods and make a chart to compare the two (We can do it on PM before posting it of course).

Comparison of screenshots don't have much sense as Kindle screenshots looks like crap on LCD screens ;p

But here you have size comparision:
Source files: 4,54MB
MOBI - Normal Quality (Lowest setting) file created by KCC: 1,69 MB
Source files resized to 600x800, processed by your script and packed in to CBZ (no compression): 966 KB
