We have about 20 paperbacks by Stephen King in our household and I liked about 2 of them. So... I'm not worried besides, I'm sure it'll be available as ebook and for free about a week before it hits the shelves.

“I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts,” he said in the press release. “I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book.”
Silly goose. How long do you think it will take someone to scan it, and post online? Illegal, certainly, but inevitable. |

Well, that's a King book I won't be buying, but then I haven't bought one since I abandoned the disappointing "Under the Dome" part way through.

I'm sure no publishing industry proxy paid a large sum for this, considering how well his prerelease went last time, and how much coverage there was. I don't think we've seen a more covered ebook outside of Pottermore or whatever.
And I'm sure there will be no FUD media coverage of "just how bad piracy is - look at the new Steven King..." stories being sweetened up with nice weasel wording and big numbers, ready for that now obvious leak. My entry to the bet: 380mil in losses. |

Oh well, I'll have to do what I did for his last one and wait until the library gets it. If he stops charging like $20 for his e-books people might buy them. But I thought price wasn't a deterrent. Wasn't 11/22/63 a bestSELLER as in "a book which sold the best." doesn't money have to change hands for something to be called an anythingseller?
And the piracy loss math will continue.... number of seeders plus number of leechers x pi R squared, times the full retail price... I imagine it will be a major story full of graphs and Venn diagrams and all kinds of scientific lingo to satisfy and shock the masses. |

I don't read king all that often, but I guess he's making it even easier for me not to read his books now. I don't buy paperbacks anymore and haven't outside of ref books and gifts for many years now. Even a series I really wanted to read (Harry potter) didn't change that either (not that it's an issue anymore since pottermore )
I've no doubt many will not wait though and will just pirate the ebooks like happened with hp. |

considering that i've seen enough stephen king books to choke a horse at every single library sale and used book store i've ever been to, he should be begged to release ebook only novels and stop abusing resources .
seriously though, theres no point in paying full price for any s.k. book when you can buy them for $.50 per pound in a month. |

And some people wonder why ebook piracy exists. Thanks, SK.

Well, he didn't say it would never be published as an ebook. Just that "we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being."

Utter nonsense. Of course there will be an ebook, the publishers are in the game to make money.
