Fast durch mit "Unter den Zitronenbäumen" von Chris Stewart. Der sehr humorvoll geschriebene Bericht eines Engländers, der sich in den Alpujarras eine Farm gekauft hat und nun dabei ist, sich dort ein neues Leben einzurichten. Sehr angenehm zu lesen, und natürlich vor allem für Spanienliebhaber ein Genuss.

Marc, dem kann ich überhaupt nicht zustimmen. Ich finde, dass das kein bisschen trocken geschrieben ist, sondern im Gegenteil sehr unterhaltsam (allerdings habe ich es im Original gelesen, aber in diesem Punkt dürfte die Übersetzung ja keinen so großen Unterschied machen). Aber da die Geschmäcker verschieden sind ... hole dir doch die Leseprobe von Amazon, da bekommst du bezüglich der Schreibe ein Gefühl, ob es passen könnte oder nicht.

Nicht desto trotz bleiben Bahzell und seine Welt unterhaltsame, humorvolle und durchaus auch nachdenklich machende Fantasylektüre, die ich durchaus weiterempfehlen kann. |

So, mit Son in Sorrow war ich nach drei Tagen durch. Das Buch war so gut, wie ich das erwartet hatte, aber dunkler und deprimierender. MeiLin Miranda schont ihre Charaktere diesmal wirklich nicht, und für Teil 3 sieht das auch nicht rosiger aus, aber ich freue mich trotzdem auf den nächsten Band.
David Weber's drittes Bahzell-Buch, Wind Rider's Oath, fand ich dagegen enttäuschend. Die Charaktere sind klasse, aber die Story war diesmal zu verworren und komplex (was auch die ausführenden Charaktere selbst bemängelten...) und kam - diesmal wieder weitgehend ohne Weber's Info-Dumps - einfach nicht in die Gänge. Der Weg zum großen Finale war entsprechend lang und mühsam, und das Finale selbst nach all der Arbeit ein wenig schwach. Derzeit lese ich Duncan Longs Antigrav Unlimited, das mich ein wenig an eine Mischung aus den Jugendbüchern Heinleins und Flynn/Niven/Pournelles Fallen Angels erinnert. Das Buch macht, das sei vorweggeschickt, ohne Zweifel Spaß. Aber das... zwiegespaltene Verhältnis des Autors zur Englischen Rechtschreibung und Grammatik und seine stilistisch etwas holprige Ausdrucksweise trüben das Lesevergnügen dann doch ein wenig. Für so etwas gibt es aber eigentlich Editoren in den Verlagen. Baen scheint in diesem Tätigkeitsbereich eines Verlagshauses aber eher schwächer aufgestellt. Schade. Update: Richtig schade. Wieso Baen das Buch in dem Zustand veröffentlicht hat, ist mir völlig unklar. Hat das jemals mal einer von vorn bis hinten durchgelesen, bevor es in die Produktion gegeben wurde!? Die Fehler wurden immer schlimmer, und die Handlung immer dünner, je weiter man im Buch vorankommt. Zum Schluss las sich das wie eine typische Wish-Fulfillment-Fantasy eines S/F-Nerds mit nur mäßigem Schreibtalent. Abschließendes Fazit: Da gibt es auf storiesonline.net oder ähnlichen Web-Sites zuhauf bessere Qualität. Klar, es gibt auch massig deutlich schlechtere, aber das ist hier nicht der Punkt... Gestern "Böses Blut" von Arne Dahl fertig gelesen. Das war mein erstes Buch von diesem Autor, wird aber mit Sicherheit nicht mein letztes sein. Große Empfehlung für alle Schwedenkrimifans - und nicht nur für die :-)

Mal wieder (zum werweisswievielten Mal) mit David Eddings Belgariad/Malloreon Zyklus angefangen, und da ganz am Anfang mit "Belgarath der Zauberer".
Diese Bücher haben für mich etwas von "nach Hause kommen", sie waren für mich der eigentliche Start in die Welt der Fantasy und ich habe sie schon so oft gelesen, das ich sie fast mitsprechen kann. Ähnlich wie Terry Pratchett und dem Herrn der Ringe gehören auch sie zu den P-Büchern die ich wohl niemals abgeben werde, auch wenn ich gerade aus Platzgründen fast 1000 Bücher aussortiert habe Schade, das er und seine Frau vor ihrem Tod nur noch Mist geschrieben haben (namentlich den "Götterkinder"-Zyklus) Last edited by troll05; 03-11-2012 at 05:17 AM. |

Habe vor ein paar Tagen mit "Die Abenteuer des Hatschi Baba aus Ispahan" von James Morier begonnen. Ein Schelmenroman, der in der Atmosphäre von 1001 Nacht spielt und sehr vergnüglich zu lesen ist. Ausserdem wirkt das darin verwendete Deutsch, trotz des Alters, auch jetzt noch nicht wirklich antiquiert. Danke, Frodok!
