hi,
I am using usenetwork 0.7 in my Kindle DX (2.1.1) and it works. Now I can open kindle store. But I cannot find any items(book, magazine...). For example, I can see many categories in Book, I get a promt 'No items found' when I choose a category such as 'Fiction'. Why? I am not sure it occurs because I do not register in Kindle DX. I cannot finish registration in Kindle DX because it says 'Your kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please try again later' even though it is connecting Internet via usb network. I heard that there is a GPS module in Kindle so only user in US can do registration using Kindle, is it right? |

You can't register a Kindle via the USB tethering. It can only be done when connected to the Sprint network. Probably related to your IP address not being on the right subnet |

Thank you for your reply. I think I have to give up to register it in China.

No one here to help me out either - but my problem can be scrapped (I'll delete the posts since no one answered and they only add to the already long thread).
I got a DX Global from friends. Problem fixed. Last edited by highwaykind; 02-08-2010 at 04:51 PM. Reason: typo and addition |

Has it been tested in DX global? I'm getting a Kindle DX global tomorrow. I want to use this hack but I'm worried about bricking it.

Hi,
Thank you for this great stuff! 0.11 works fine on my new kindle dxi. I want to ask a question here. Thanks in advance. If usbnetwork is working, is there a way that I can make the kindle back to USB mass storage mode without rebooting it? |

not easily I'm afraid.
One possibility would be to set a script to run say 1 minute later via a cron ; that script would destroy the usb0 network interface, unload the kernel modules for ethernet and reload the file_storage one ; like: ifconfig usb0 down rmmod g_ether modprobe g_file_storage |

Take a look at the Qt Thread here. There is a shortcut tool included. With 3 small scripts I am able to enable usbnet or storage just by pressing two keys.

Thanks for replying! It seems not so easy.
In fact, I'm trying to do some font replacement by myself without using a UFH. I ssh to kindle and then I copy fonts from /usr/java/lib/fonts to /mnt/us/fonts. I replace some fonts in /mnt/us/fonts and then use commands below: Code:
mntroot rw mount --bind /mnt/us/fonts /usr/java/lib/fonts /etc/init.d/framework restart But if I want to transfer some books on my computer to kindle, I have to reboot it and then repeat the steps above. It's kind of annoying. Oh, I also got another problem when telnet to kindle via usbnetwork. After a few minutes (maybe 2 or 3 min), the connection will be closed with a msg saying "Connection closed by foreign host". But I can reconnect to kindle again by using Code:
telnet 192.168.2.2 Quote:

Does that mean to install Qt in kindle and then use the hotkey manager?
What scripts do you use to enable usbnet or storage? |
