Bigme Hibreak Dual color eink + small oled
source: https://www.theverge.com/tech/911578...smartphone-lcd"After teasing the “world’s first dual-screen color E Ink + LCD smartphone,” Bigme has announced its new HiBreak Dual. The Android 14 phone features a 6.13-inch color E Ink screen on the front and a 1.85-inch circular LCD on the back. It also supports a pressure-sensitive stylus, while April 16th preorders will start at $359." These form factor devices look interesting to me but I haven't yet been compelled (thankfully) to part with my money for any of them. The vendor in particular, Bigme, has been tricky for me - their last collaboration with Pocketbook (Inkpad Eo, afaik) resulted in a somewhat compromised device in spite of Pocketbook's valiant efforts to make it work. But I admit I still stare at articles featuring these devices with attention - maybe I just need to find them used/refurbished .

https://store.bigme.vip/collections/...ual-smartphone Good grief - that round LCD screen sticks out the back like some gigantic camera lens! I can't see the attraction of a small, awkward extra screen. |

This monstrosity is really ugly but like the old Latin proverb says "de gustibus non est disputandum". A phone with a large camera lens (like the TCl NXTPAPER 60 Ultra for example) doesn't really look better but a good camera is more useful than a clock or some gimmicky AI pet; I know the device has a camera as well, but certainly a bad one. There's already a clock on the front side. And I have enough clocks in my appartment and always carry a watch on my wrist when I leave the house. So I don't need a LCD clock on the back side.
Besides it's only Android 14. The support for Android 13 just dropped, 14 will be next. If BigMe sells this for around 100 $ or € then Android 14 would be ok. But they want much more. I once bought a 7" BigMe device (B7) via Amazon for around 260 Euro on sale. It had a dead pixel. I asked BigMe what they would do about this. Well, they told me eloquently shit happens and that's just the way it is. The customer support was really bad so I returned the device via Amazon without problems. Using a custom launcher and adb on the B7 was a nightmare, the camera was really rubbish; I couldn't even make a decent picture of some text on paper with it. All in all I have a rather bad experience with BigMe. |

Such an UGLY-looking reader!
Why not glue an actual 11-inch clock on the back of this thing. At least then it can be nailed to the wall !! |

Makes sense I guess. I do think a square LCD would have made more sense, simply for displaying text.
