Are there any pieces of software that allow for customization of the stock UI without introducing another layer (like KOReader)?

I'm specifically frustrated with the lack of ability to hide the activity tracking, especially the time stats on kepubs. I prefer kepubs over epubs for many reasons but I very much dislike seeing "x hours to go" on the library page, as well of the prevalence of the Activity menu itself in the center of the bottom panel (I have sideloaded mode enabled). While the menu is still there when not using kepubs, it doesn't track reading times, which is nice.

Happy to do almost anything to my system but I don't just want it to be a different UI layer on top of the stock one.

Which doesn't seem to work on current firmware (and the Clara BW doesn't go back very far, so older likely wouldn't either).
