Possibly. It you want to keep that feature I recommend holding off updating to 5.12.5 for now. (If you do happen to update please let us know if the dark mode icon is still there afterwards.)

The first six characters of the serial number identify the specific model, including regional variations. The four characters you posted, "G000", are common to several Kindle models. The next two characters will narrow it down. See the link that NiLuJe posted for details.

The reason I’m confused is because I have a dark-mode toggle button in my quick access settings. It’s a circle with a diagonal line through it, half light, half dark. But no one else responded to this thread in the affirmative, so I’m wondering if maybe I’ve misunderstood the question.

Anyway, I don’t know if this is what you’re referring to, but I took a pic of it and attached it below, in case it is.

Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t have updated from 5.12.4 to 5.12.5 then.

Can you please check whether you can save a custom theme with the dark mode enabled?

Thank you! I still have most of my previous Kindles, so that chart will be very useful in identifying the generations of each model.

Wow, this is confusing to me. Isn’t the same update pushed out to everyone? (regionally, at least) So how would it be possible for me to have a different firmware than others...let alone most others?

Yeesh, I was hoping you wouldn’t say that. I really don’t want to lose the quick toggle, but its not possible to prevent that Kindle from receiving the update, because I go back and forth between Kindle (reading) and Audible (listening. So I need it to stay connected to wifi, for them to be able to sync. I guess I’ll just have to take my chances.

Although, to be honest, I’m kind of curious to find out if the toggle is still there after the update.

Omg, what??! LOL, I didn’t even know that was something we could do. Silly me, I’ve been spending so much time reading, that I haven’t even looked at my settings in such a long time.

How (or where) would I do that? I’ll look through my settings and see if I can find that setting.

EDIT: oops, disregard that last part. I misread your question. I thought you were talking about being able to set a book cover as the sleep screen image. (not sure how I got that, lol)

Anyway, yes, I can create and save a new custom theme while in Dark mode.

As of now there is No such feature available in Indian Variant with FW 5.12.5 (hope to get this soon)

I suspect it has little to do with the "variant" (if your device supports it, as in Oasis2 and above and PW4) and is more luck of the draw because this seems like a server-side trollout.

I had some spare time today waiting for a package to be delivered so I took another look into the implementation of the quick setting for dark mode. After more research I have to admit that I was wrong. (In my defense reading obfuscated Java is hard.)

It turns out that not only does dark mode have to be supported by the device as indicated in the deviceConfig.conf file, but in addition it has to be remotely enabled by Amazon in order to appear. The firmware is checking for experiment KINDLE_EINK_DARK_MODE_249201 to be enabled for the user's account.

So at this point we are just waiting for Amazon to roll it out more widely and it should be safe for Vmurph to update to the latest firmware. (Personally I am more interested in the feature that displays the current book cover on the lock screen that is also implemented in the firmware, but currently disabled.)
