Kindle Firmware 5.12.5

I just found my PW3 and charged it up - it had gone dead. I really need to use this more since I'm always in love with the screen and keep getting reminded of that when I switch it on. It looks like I do have 5.12.4 on it.

Any problems with yours on 5.12.4?

I have a non-jailbroken PW3 that's not blocked from automatic updates. Seems to be behaving fine on 5.12.4. If there are issues, thus far, it hasn't seem to have affected my normal use.

Nope! 5.12.4 is bug-free

Amazon tried to do a gradual rollout of the Aa menu change and it introduced a bug. This has since been fixed server-side.

There's no such thing, there are always bugs.


While I get as frustrated as you do with JSWolf and his inability to stop flogging a dead horse or stop spouting information as fact with no proof, we don't know that Amazon have EOL'd the PW3 or that 5.12.4 will be the last firmware update for it until they say so. For all we know the issue that was present in 5.12.4 that caused it to be pulled could still be present in 5.12.5 in which case Amazon are doing the right thing by NOT releasing it for the PW3. Nobody on this board unless they have been told by Amazon or work for their dev team "knows" it's all speculation.

Thing is, the Amazon staff that work on the firmware can do so from home. So I don't think it's a manpower issue. The other issue is why hasn't Amazon put out a statement regarding the PW3?

JSWolf is very anti-Kindle so take his comments with a grain of salt. Amazon is far from perfect and bugs are inevitable but oftentimes, he tends to make issues seem worse or more widespread than they are.

There have been reports of higher battery drain but honestly, that's been the case for pretty much every firmware update. Seems like it might have been fixed already, too.

You don't need to update the firmware to fix these bugs. That's the point.


The bug was related to the Aa menu rollout and cover sync issues.

Truthfully I can't tell as I haven't been using this device. Because I haven't used it, haven't noticed issues. I messed with it some last night and it was doing fine. Smooth and not freezing and as always I fell in love with the screen all over again and told myself, yet again, I need to read on it more.
