Backlight intensity changes itself

I normally have backlight intensity set to around 15%, which I find is enough for reading in dim conditions. If I'm reading outside or in a bright room, I turn the backlight off, and then turn it on again at night. The problem I have is that I frequently find that the backlight resets itself to a much brighter level than the 15% - eg after bringing it out of sleep this morning, instead of the 15% to which it was set when I put it to sleep last night, it was now set to 42%, though I had made no change to the level.

Is this a known problem? My Aura HD has current 4.7.10413 F/W installed, though I've had this problem on and off with multiple different F/W levels ever since I bought this ereader several years ago.

Probably a stupid question, but could you possibly be accidently changing the brightness level by swiping up or down on the very left side of the screen without realizing it? If this happens to be the case, you can turn off this behavior in the settings menu.

Also worth checking that the "AUTO" light settings haven't accidentally been turned on too.

I initially thought that too, but the Aura HD doesn't have the "auto" adjustment feature.
