Actually, I say I'm out of touch, but there's an exception to that: I buy everything that Baen publish, and enjoy the overwhelming majority of it. I get the impression, though, that the kind of thing Baen publish doesn't tend to attract Hugo nominations.

ETA: She was first nominated for a Nebula and for a Hugo way back in 2010, and had multiple nominations for both since. She's been shortlisted for the Tiptree also, and also had nominations for World Fantasy and Locus awards, with a Locus win.

So if she again wins the Hugo award for Best Novel (after the 3rd one is published), will that then be a 'first' for each single novel in a trilogy series to win the Hugo Award?

Yes, it would. A novel and its sequel have won it before - Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" and "Speaker for the Dead" - but never a trilogy.

No, "Hyperion" won in 1990, but although its sequel, "The Fall of Hyperion", was nominated the following year, it didn't win.

Hugo awards have devolved into awards for social justice and identity politics. It may not be the best place to look for your next read if that isn't your cup of tea.

Possibly, but people have been complaining about that since the 60s.

Looking at the awards list, the last novel winner I recognise, and have read, is "Spin", by Robert Charles Wilson, which won in 2006.

Bujold's Vorkosigan saga won Best Series, and most (all?) of those have been published by Baen, so that's one exception.

Looking at the winners, I've also read Seanan McGuire's Every Heart A Doorway, and I liked it a lot. It's a really good take on the problem that xkcd desribes here.

I've been meaning to read Jemisin for a while, but as I understand it, she writes pretty dark books, so I have to be in mood for it.

I am waiting for Jemisin to finish the series before starting on The Fifth Season.
