^ A great, wonderful bargain!

They can be read in Publication Order or in Chronological Order.

There is a fascinating debate over this, located here:

https://www.narniaweb.com/books/readingorder.

Regardless which order one chooses, these are enduring books that will appeal to both children and adults.

ENJOY!

The Collected Stories of Arthur C. Clarke by Arthur C. Clarke $1.99 at Amazon US.

Warning: This seems to be a relist with new cover art. I bought the previous edition, but looking at this one, Amazon doesn't know that I own it.

It's a great value if you don't own it already.

Quote:
Arthur C. Clarke, along with H. G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, and Robert A. Heinlein, was a definitive voice in twentieth century science fiction. A prophetic thinker, undersea explorer, and “one of the true geniuses of our time,” Clarke not only won the highest science fiction honors, the Nebula and Hugo Awards, but also received nominations for an Academy Award and the Nobel Peace Prize, and was knighted for his services to literature (Ray Bradbury).

Now, more than one hundred works of the sci-fi master’s short fiction are available in the “single-author collection of the decade” (Booklist, starred review). This definitive edition includes early work such as “Rescue Party” and “The Lion of Comarre,” classics like “The Nine Billion Names of God” and “The Sentinel” (which was the kernel of the later novel and movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey), and later works including “A Meeting with Medusa” and “The Hammer of God.”

Encapsulating one of the great science fiction careers of all time, this immense volume “displays the author’s fertile imagination and irrepressible enthusiasm for both good storytelling and impeccable science” (Library Journal).

And more on Clarke:

My edition is about 1,800 pages. (Check out Kobo UK for additional info.)

This $1.99 edition is probably only Part 1 (of four parts - I think.) ADDED: I see that it does, indeed, have four parts.

Amazon.com too.

Also on sale:
Version Control by Dexter Palmer - Link
Quote:
Rebecca Wright has reclaimed her life, finding her way out of her grief and depression following a personal tragedy years ago. She spends her days working in customer support for the internet dating site where she first met her husband. But she has a strange, persistent sense that everything around her is somewhat off-kilter: she constantly feels as if she has walked into a room and forgotten what she intended to do there; on TV, the President seems to be the wrong person in the wrong place; her dreams are full of disquiet. Meanwhile, her husband's decade-long dedication to his invention, the causality violation device (which he would greatly prefer you not call a “time machine”) has effectively stalled his career and made him a laughingstock in the physics community. But he may be closer to success than either of them knows or can possibly imagine.

Version Control is about a possible near future, but it’s also about the way we live now. It’s about smart phones and self-driving cars and what we believe about the people we meet on the Internet. It’s about a couple, Rebecca and Philip, who have experienced a tragedy, and about how they help—and fail to help—each other through it. Emotionally powerful and stunningly visionary, Version Control will alter the way you see your future and your present.

Black Goats (Wine of the Gods Book 3) by Pam Uphoff

A long running SF/magic series - latest Kaat (Wine of the Gods Book 45) I enjoyed this and have reread it more than once.

Eight centuries ago the Wizards of Scoone rose in rebellion and overthrew the Tyrant Wizard. But not before he trapped the eight most powerful in a spellweb that chained their magic and changed their bodies into the form of goats. The deposed wizard took his goats with him into exile. And time passed.

Ash is a quiet village in the foothills. The home of three Old Gods, a retired wizard herding sheep with his huge black goats, and the few surviving mages and witches. But two generations later, the young witches and mages are looking outward toward a world that has grown and changed.

And while the Old Gods think of ways to increase the numbers of magically talented people, the old wizard loses control over the black goats

Self published, Pam Uphoff is a Mad Genius Club member.

All four books in the Witching Savanna series are on sale for $0.99 a piece.

Quote:
Savannah is considered a Southern treasure, a city of beauty with a rich, colorful past. Some might even call it magical…
To the uninitiated, Savannah shows only her bright face and genteel manner. Those who know her well, though, can see beyond her colonial trappings and small-city charm to a world where witchcraft is respected, Hoodoo is feared, and spirits linger. Mercy Taylor is all too familiar with the supernatural side of Savannah, being a member of the most powerful family of witches in the South.

Despite being powerless herself, of course.

^

Anyone read these? Are they any good? Some criticism revolves around the idea of preachiness.

One reviewer (I didn't read all 1,300 + reviews) even mentions "...token gays". Good fiction, like life, should mirror all choices - in my opinion.

However, I absolutely detest preachiness in fiction.
