1) 5.8.11 can not be jail broken by this thread's process, 5.7.4 factory can be jail broken.

If you have no idea of what use a jail break of your device has for you, you are really just making noise in a forum of no interest to yourself.

Devices from Germany seem to be an exception.
Although some devices have been reported to fail (unable to re-boot).
Using 5.8.9.0.1 might be a better choice than 5.7.4:

Hey there thankyou for the info, Sorry for the really late reply.
I downloaded the dummy package. Put it on root of kindle but it gets deleted.
Am I putting it in the wrong place. The downloaded files had no instructions with them, and I got confused looking through the spoiler above the file download links.
Was I installing it wrong? Or Have I lost my JB?

The dummy test package is not built to install from the visible root of USB storage.
Put it in /mrpackages and try to install it with MrPI (trigger MrPI either with its KUAL menu entry or its search bar command ( ;log mrpi ) ).

be aware: brand new G090 G105, no connect with Amazon before.

@knc1: So I get rid of the problem with 5.8.9.0.1

You got your kindle from german Amazon too with 5.8.11? Did you get it with or without special offers? Mine is with, but I had support remove it.

1) I've created the folder to block updates (`sudo mkdir update.bin.tmp.partial` in the root folder)

2) I logged in to my wi-fi and my Amazon account (looks like my friend logged in there before shipping it to me though...) (FW 5.8.11)

3) Had support staff remove Special Offers.

4) This is where it gets unclear - ??? downgrade

I guess I should update to those too first? Or you suggested 5.8.9.0.1 - but you did not post a hash in your forum post ( would you please add it? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=291336 ) so am not sure if the file I'll find will be correct. - can you confirm the MD5 hash for the 5.8.9.0.1 FW is 5d38744bd01f4cbf457dae4499c3c32a ?

7) Now I should have a working jailbreak and ready to install packages from the community? Is it safe to OTA update to latest firmware? Or should I keep running the 58901 firmware untill instructed otherwise?

@3QVK...: 1-3 okay.
So, your PW3 has no special offers anymore. Somebody mentioned you could have a big problem after the attempt to downgrade, because your PW3 was connected before. I do not know.

My special offers were deactivated after my successful JB with 5.74.

Kindle PW3 shipped with 5.8.11 FW from Germany (to Germany), serial G090 G105, Bought WITH special offers, de-attached from Amazon account this was purchased with, logged into another, contacted support, got special offers removed and then downgraded.

Now on to actually JB this.

EDIT: Did rest of the JBd process just fine.

My question now is - is it safe to OTA to whatever is the latest FW? Wiki seems to suggest it is but I'd like to be super sure

I recommend NOT to update automatically to the current fw 5.9.x. Better sideload 5.8.11 from Amazon's server and update to this fw using UYK menu entry. 5.8.11 has the big functional advantage to give you finer boldness settings for AZW3/KFX books, and it still allows to use Active Document files ("Kindlets"), e.g. for KUAL and Vlasovsoft's CoolReader. The latter feature will finally go when upgrading to anything above this version.

I do not use the above mentioned formats, so I'll stay on the firmware I currently have.

Thank you, I'll look into updating at a later date when the Kindlets may perhaps work again ^^

If by "stay on the firmware I currently have" you mean to stay on the firmware version built solely for use on the factory production line, the one you had to load to jail break the device ...
You really should install a customer build firmware version.
None of our add-ins here where ever intended to work on the firmware built to be used on the production line only.
