My Kindle Oasis Has Arrived

I'm not sure I could make it work for my Oasis though ... I'm kind of hoping they come out with an Oasis cover, except then it will cost even more!

On another note, I'm getting a new Oasis sent to me because I found a bunch of dead pixels. I had noticed one that was pretty bad, but then when I was taking pictures for my review I noticed more.

What does this mean, "dead pixels"? Black dots on your screen that won't go away?

I have had my Oasis almost a week now and I love it. For someone that likes to read holding the keyboard in one hand, its ideal for me. I had the Voyage previously, and the buttons on it were never ideal (although I used them all the time).

And the screen looks perfect to me. The only time I see any cones from the light is in a nearly dark room, which is not my typical reading environment, and they are pretty faint even then.

I am surprised to hear others with the walnut cover say they are not seeing any scuffs. So maybe there are 2 types of leather on these covers? Mine is a bit fuzzy to the touch, and already looks like a worn journal. These scratches don't rub off. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like the way it is wearing, but I cannot imagine what it would look like after a day in my purse!

I paid the $20 to have special offers removed from my other kindle, so I was slow to notice that the Oasis is ad-free right out of the box, as well it should be if they are presenting it as a premium device.

Mine kind of rub out with a small circular rubbing motion. It does scratch a bit, but I been able to just do the rubbing thing and they are gone. I kind of like the way it wears.
A bit of moisture on the thumb to rub with also helps. But I don't worry to much. Its probably a bit more fussy than the merlot or black cover, but I love the way it feels and looks in walnut.

If your picture represents the true color of your cover, mine is much darker. In some lights, you might not even notice the Amazon logo. And mine is not fuzzy, though you can feel some texture when you rub it. And like yours, mine has picked up some dings and scratches, though most of them will rub out if you care about them, which I don't. I like that nothing about it suggests it's an expensive electronic device. It looks more like an old used leather-covered address book.

It's not like they even need the advertising. They're already synonymous enough with e-reader as it is. If I had a $ for every singe person who spotted my Kobo and asked if it was a kindle, I'd have enough for a free e-reader on a regular schedule.

They look like dark grey (but shiny) dots when viewed at some angles and it changes to a bright white dot when viewed at other angles. It never changes, they are always in the same place and don't go away when the screen is refreshed or when a different book is opened or closed. I'm assuming they are dead pixels because they never go away. There are others in the screen but not in the same area that I magnified for this picture. They are different than the glittery white random sparkles that you can see when you turn the Oasis on the side and look at the area by the LED - those seem to be sparkles from the cuts the glass reflecting in the light.

Those look to me like dust particles between the light diffuser and the screen.

I have had mine since Tuesday. Mine still looks like new. The few tiny marks it has gotten rubbed right off really easily. Maybe it just depends on the individual cover. I even had mine in my purse for a few hours and it didn't get a single mark. Here's a picture of mine that I took yesterday for my Amazon review. http://imgur.com/a/uQyn4

Also if it starts getting dry over time, mink oil should bring it back to it's original luster. I have a pair of Dansko shoes that are made out of nubuck and mink oil is what they recommend to keep them conditioned. They go from looking like a scratched up pair of junk shoes to brand new with an application. It does make them slightly darker for a short period of time. It is applied with a brush and then the excess is buffed off with a cloth. Clearly I haven't tried it on the cover yet, so your mileage may vary.
