GIMP and diacritics

I'm working with GIMP on a cover for an ebook of one of Charlotte Brontë's books. But I can't work out how to get GIMP to do the eumlaut character.

It's easy to get the eumlaut character in NotePad++ and LibreOffice Write by using Alt+0235, but that doesn't work with GIMP. Is there a way to do diacritics with GIMP? Or will I have to make an image and add it to the GIMP image?

While Alt+0235 doesn't work in Gimp what will work is to type it into your text editor and then copy and paste it into your Gimp text box.

BTW, Inkscape has a nice built-in Unicode Glyphs menu.

If you prefer keyboard input, you could enter Unicode characters via the CTRL+U toggle.

For example, if you wanted to enter Noël, you'd type No, press CTRL+U, type EB, press space followed by CTRL+U and type l.

You could, of course, also select the character directly from the Glyphs dialog box.

There's always the character map to select and copy to clipboard (then paste in gimp).

An alternative to (I assume) Window's character map is the very useful BabelMap. Think of it as character map on steroids (to abuse a very badly abused phrase).

An online resource...here...click on the character you want and it'll copy to your clipboard...then paste into any program.

I always use Windows "Character Map". Easy way to get it is to do "Windows key +R" and type "charmap".

It doesn't need to be Windows, though. I use KDE on linux, and there I have "KCharSelect". I assume there's a similar tool on every desktop environment.
