Kindle classic 4/5 screen compatibility
Hello, I have Kindle classic (nontouch) bought from amazon in 2013, so I believe it is Kindle 4. Recently screen broke and I ordered new one via ebay. Problem is that broken screen numer is ED060SCN and one ordered is ED060SCF. Seller says that my Kindle is 5 (nontouch) but screen should work.
Do you think it is safe to try to connect or smth may fry? |

Moved to the dev forum, where there are people who are most likely to be able to help you.

Thank you knc1 - device serial prefix is B023 so I suppose it is Kindle nontouch black 4.
I have searched this site for info, but I could not find any info confirming that I can securely connect this screen. |

People often do not read the entire thread, just to discover what device your writing about. Most of the screen related information here is on the K3 devices. But the problems encountered will be similar. I seem to remember someone posting a breakdown on the part number fields - most likely in the K3 screen replacement thread(s). |

I have to stand up for the OP:
"Kindle 5" is used by resellers as a marketing name for Kindle NT black here in the Czech rep. as well. Their naming scheme is probably based on Wikipedia although they diverged in case of KT2: they call it "Kindle 6 Touch" while the Wikipedia article calls it "Kindle 7". The scheme actually counts the basic models while keeping the "special" models out of the numerical sequence. I.e. Kindle 1, Kindle 2, Kindle 3 (=Keyboard), Kindle 4 (=NT 2011/silver), Kindle 5 (=NT 2012/black), Kindle 6 (=KT2). All this mess is caused by Amazon's failure to introduce a stable standard for naming Kindle devices. |
