I may have missed this, is the latest 5x version of Calibre, including download of the tools, able to handle kindle for pc3 ebooks?

With calibre 5, the 7.03 or 7.03.1 preview releases handle epub and kindle mobi/kf8 fairly well, pdf to an extent and KFX even with the voucher 2 not very well.

Please note that these are still preview releases. If you are concerned about DRM and are using Windows, I would recommend a calibre 4.23 portable install with DeDRM 6.81 for Windows users in parallel to a calibre 5 install.

What is new in 7.0.3.1? Where an you get 7.0.3.1? I don't see it anyplace.

7.0.3.1 is the current master code. Not even a pre-release yet. It's currently 6 commits ahead of 7.0.3.

7.0.3.1 can be found by checking issue #1493.

Just note that 7.0.3.1 is a release made on a forked copy of the official repository by a different user. I'm not saying don't use it--not at all. Just saying "know what you're using."

11 days ago the official repository was updated 11 days ago for fixing something to do with the keys for ePub and PDF. The 7.0.3.1 version was updated 14 days ago to fix for PDF.

From what I see, the difference between 7.0.3 and 7.0.3.1 is to do with PDF. So if you are not trying to remove the DRM from PDF, they should be the same.

I have no idea how well the new updates for 7.0.3 work.

Is there a (mostly functional, don’t care about PDF) version of the tools which will work with the latest version of Calibre for Mac (5.11.0)? I replaced the hard drive awhile back and while I installed calibre (3.44), I didn’t get around to installing tools back then. I would like to update calibre, and install tools at the same time. I will probably be using Download & Transfer method to get AZW3 file (rather than Kindle for Mac).

(Now it comes back to me

my MBP is too old for the new stuff, I’ll be doing this on the new iMac.

DeDRM 7.0.3 should work on a MAC for ePub, KF8, and Mobi.

Only issue was a printer and scanner reappearing every time it was deleted. Edited cups.conf and disabled the auto-discovery service.
All our Amazon Kindle azw3 Paperwhite 3 ebooks were OK. First time I forgot to enter the Kindle serial number. They all loaded, inc covers and metadata, but still with DRM. So deleted them, added serial number and imported again.
The only plugin I use out of 29 that wouldn't install on 5.11 was FictionDB.

No doubt the DeDRM is still beta as it doesn't do all of 6.x. There was a bug with PDFs found that's going to be back ported to 6.x, apparently some PDFs are non-standard.
