Sincerest condolences - mental health problems can tear families apart - esp. during the holidays - stay strong Mr. B - it's so hard to deal with situations when there is no rational answer to "WHY?"

At least they know where the library is, I had to walk my students over to the library and arrange a tour for them when I was teaching. It was kind of pathetic. Most of my students freaked out when I told them that their citations had to come from a credible source, meaning peer reviewed in some manner or main stream press. No blogs, no self published work.

(hugs) Yeah, mental health issues suck serious ass. It is awful, especially when people are getting help and still succumb.

My thoughts are with you Bilbo1967. I've had a cousin and an uncle commit suicide and my wife struggles with depression and anxiety. It's a shitty place to be. We're here for your venting needs.

Ha! They are the same over here. They usually stop freaking out when I show them how they can email EBSCO articles from academic journals to themselves with the appropriate citation (they can choose APA, MLA, etc. and it is in the body of the email. The article, if PDF format, which most are, is an attached document).

Anyway, this happened to the neighboring building, not the library, thank goodness but the other building neighbors my office and tech services, so my favorite paraprofessional and I heard everything and she called security. One of the IT guys was actually outside passing by and saw her do it, too.

Bilbo1967. I am so sorry about your wife's cousin. One of my grandmother's brothers committed suicide as a young man and I have an aunt with schizophrenia, so I can sympathize. Mental issues are horrible and so hard to overcome.

@Bilbo1967:

I'm so sorry for you. I have not one but two brothers-in-law that have had similar tragedies in their families, both due to chemical imbalances like bipolar disorder. My sincere condolences to you.

Best regards,
Hitch

Because there is a nice tool for reverting Dropbox to a specified time, which saved my bacon after accidentally updating my Dropbox to a REALLY old version of my Calibre Libraries. I cloned it, made a new app secret, and gave it persistent login.

https://github.com/eli-schwartz/dropbox-restore/

It ended up being faster to rollback the changes and let Dropbox continue syncing.
Hi:

Damned if I know. We had two separate "things" (now...not sure that they ARE separate, mind you) happen this weekend; we were testing the batteries on the UPS, and learnt to our horror that they weren't recharging, and were near-death. During the test, we ended up browning-out, and that seems to have screwed with the BIOS. It took several hours to get THAT straightened out. THEN, Sunday, we had the Dropbox issue. Are the two related, or...? Not clear to me.

Long story short: simply unlinking/relinking the main computer to the Dropbox didn't solve the issue. We had to uninstall/reinstall; we copied the existing DB files over to another portion of the RAID, and we've been letting it resynch since yesterday, so, another 100K+ files. Only 9 hours left! {grim smile}. So, now, I'm sitting here looking at drive racks, to slap up some additional terabytes JUST to backup the Dropbox archives, because restoring Dropbox, FROM Dropbox, is a giant pain in the tuchus. I normally don't back-up the Dropbox, for the obvious reasons. But after all the headache and stress and massive inconvenience of the last 36 or so hours, doing nightly incrementals seems like less agita to me.

I have to say: I think that the utter lack of any decent, "real" Dropbox documentation/manuals is beyond absurd, as well as the lack of any real method to up/download files in a remotely timely manner, like an FTP or other, much-faster FTP. Just sayin'. (This is one of the things that really irritates me with the Amazon S3's; no FTP. Makes them worthless, at least to me, for storing our [fairly massive] file archives. Who on earth wants to sit around loading a file at a time? Who is that storage at Amazon even aimed AT?

My dog Gracie had another seizure today.

Her first was in August, and the vet said if it didn't happen again within a month it'll probably be OK. Her second was two weeks ago, so three months following the first. Today's happened just two weeks later. Going to the vet on Friday for a followup and additional testing. My poor little girl.
