having difficulty downloading Sigil onto Linux

means. But speaking of grep, let me ask you a question. I, accidentally, ended up downloading all these text editors in Xubuntu last night. (I thought I was just checking the size of the downloads.) So I've got like 6 text editors now. I like Kate and Bluefish and Medit seems okay. But this one jEdit is more of an IDE and I like it because it shows all the surrounding print in red when there's a coding mistake (like a missing end tag or something), but it's nearly impossible to copy and paste from the text into the "find" box for "find & replace." I think that may be because they're talking about "strings" going in there, or it may just be buggy (I Googled and some guys were having problems with it too but that didn't help ultimately.). Any idea what might be going on? Or, alternatively, would you happen to know of any Ubuntu text editors that are good about letting you know when there's a coding mistake? Thanks!

I don't think MR is the place for that, but there's plenty of other sites. Try StackExchange or LinuxQuestions. And always ask Google first, most information is already there, somewhere.

I run mostly vanilla(Gnome) Ubuntu, not the KDE flavor (I did try it a while back) . I use gedit for basic editing and Libre office for other stuff.
I am not an Author.
I am not a (modern) coder. I just peek from time to time
Sigil does what (and is closest with the [I]feel[/I I want)] I need (with Calibre catching up fast).

I use the term feel because it is more about matching your thinking and working style than being 'better'.

Thanks, Jellby. Stackexhange looks a little intimidating but I'll try it. LinuxQuestions looks great. (Esp. the Linux-Newbie forum there.)

I've got LibreOffice and like it a lot. And I've added Toxari's epub maker if for some reason I need a quick epub from the odt. I don't have gedit but I'll check it out. Right now I'm using Geany for a heavy duty first go-through (of an html doc) and then Kate for a finer go-through. Thanks.
P.S. You sure seem to have picked up a lot of knowledge with just peeking from time to time.

I already had looked at the first site and I just looked at the second. I think the problem is that jEdit's 'find and replace' is mostly for coders and 'string' (regular expression) stuff, which is WAY beyond my skill level or needs. Really appreciate the info!

P.S. Have Geany and REALLY like it. Very powerful. User friendly.

P.S. You sure seem to have picked up a lot of knowledge with just peeking from time to time.

Gedit is just the stock TXT editor that comes with Ubuntu. It has some of the basic (computer) language parsing features you see in Calibre/Sigil code view.

IMHO There is no need to load yourself down wit every editor there is.
Pick a couple for specific tasks, and only change if you see one that really does what you NEED.

Before I saw this last post of yours I downloaded Gedit and really liked it. I got rid of all the other text editors. So (I know I asked this before but I got so many disparate answers: get it from command line, debian, distros, discos.) how did you get Sigil in Linux? Thanks.

downloaded DiapDealer's package, extracted it with "ar -xv Sigil_from_diapDealer.deb", unpacked data.tar.gz into /home/schwartze/opt/sigil-portable/ and wrote a shellscript to launch the executable at /home/schwartze/opt/sigil-portable/sigil/sigil. I'm running it portably, as I don't have root access here.
