So, where do we actually find covers for the PW4?
I've been doing some digging and can pull my 600x800 screensavers on my Kindle 3 Keyboard (I had 340 of them apparently in the screenshots folder.....I just now, after 8 years, read that there is an image limit of 100? that stinks, though I never noticed after all this time. Why?) but all the sites I can find for "kindle screensavers" are dead and gone or only are 600x800. According to the instructions, that wont work here, and will cause issues on my PW4. I guess I can google "1072x1448" resolution screensavers...hrm. |

How to size (or re-size) images to fit a different screen has been post here multiple times. Meaning: You can rescue your 340 images. In your other post, I read that you have volunteered to be the forum editor. That is good, we haven't had editorial direction in this forum for years. PS: Have you checked our Wiki? Popular information posted here ends up in the Wiki, where anyone (even forum non-members) can edit the contents. |

With 186 pages, no one's gonna read every page trying to find stuff like that. That's ultimately the OP's job (or someone else's, like ping a mod to edit the OP's post or w/e and they can edit and put the info there). Maybe browse the last 10 pages, search the forum, wiki, then post I think.
Though I do some light documentation at work, I'm not sure I'd do that here, lol. Good idea on the resize. I know there's some apps out there that could do a mass resize, but going resizing up is almost always junky. I'll continue looking though. I didn't see anything on the wiki at first glance, so maybe I missed it if it's there. Sidenote, kind of bummed about the 5 minute timer on editing one's own posts.... And I have written some very long posts (including ones that you would like to see rewritten). I see a post count of only 12 posts, so you might be still under the new member restrictions. |

You're probably right, that's what it was. I mostly just lurk and not post so that's probably it.
As for the "re-written", I didn't mean it personally. I was mostly just annoyed at how difficult it was to read/find the info without lots of effort on the reader's part :P for content: https://www.reddit.com/r/kindlescree..._ive_made_all/ This collection is pretty good as well. |

First post is accurate as far as where images should go, as that's not device specific
.As was mentioned, you will have to resize them, though. |

It will, but only the last opened book's cover, not user specified images
.

KT4 images stretching
Hopefully this isn't a stupid question but png images are appearing stretched on my KT4.
This only happens with files that I create myself so it's obviously something I'm doing wrong. The other pngs I've uploaded (that I got as as part of another hack) work fine. And my images are the same as those ones, sized to 600 pixels wide x 800 height, resolution 96 dpi. Tried saving in various image editors with the same result. Any ideas gratefully received! |

@littlenellie: Define "stretched" (a picture would be nice
).That could either be a simple "wrong resolution" issue, but it could also be a sneakier "unexpected pixel format" issue. If you can enforce the pixel format in your image editor (a combobox appeared for just that purpose in very recent GIMP versions), make sure it's a PNG8. |

Thanks for your reply
![]() Here's an example: Spoiler:
Interesting about the pixel format, I'll have to free up some space to install GIMP and try PNG8. I'm using Photoshop CS3 which fairly ancient but usually good enough for most things I do image-wise...but maybe not in this case, idk. |

Yep, definitely a pixelformat issue
.You'll (optionally) also want to make sure it's Grayscale, but most importantly, that it's *NOT* indexed (which is highly counter intuitive, since ideally you do want to dither to the proper 16c color palette, but you just can't encode it paletted ;p). With such a simple color palette in your example, CS3 might be automagically optimizing the PNG to an indexed format, which in every other circumstances would be a great idea, but not here .Whether there's an alpha channel or not is irrelevant, that should (generally) work, it will just produce garbled output if you read in Landscape. @NiLuJe
Thanks so much! That's saved me a lot of fiddling around. It is grayscale (I should've mentioned that before) but good to know that indexing is to be avoided. I need to read up on my image encoding and such, I think
