Aura HD - not always recognised as such
Sometimes I connect my Aura HD and Calibre says "Kobo Touch/Mini/Glo detected". Other times it (correctly) says "Kobo Aura HD detected".
I have the Touch Extended plugin installed and the Touch plugin disabled. Any ideas? |

Does it behave properly in both cases?

Where does it say that? Looking at calibre 0.9.32 it says "Connected Kobo Touch". But, I seem to remember it was phrased differently before.
In any case, the device model display is just that, a display. In fact, before the Aura HD came out, the driver always said "Kobo Touch". There are some places where "Kobo Touch/Glo/Mini/Aura HD" will be used, as that is the generic model name used. Whatever is displayed, there should be no problems. If this message is displayed, then the correct driver has been loaded and all the function should work correctly. The driver makes decisions based on the firmware and database version on the device. The displayed model name is the only time it differentiates based on the device id. |

It's the little pop-up in top right corner, possibly a Mac Growl notification.

Of course, and Windows does the same thing if I have the right calibre settings.
Looking at the code, it is a timing thing. When calibre detects a device, it starts a job to read the device and then displays that message. An early step in the job sets the correct name for the device. If that happens first, the message will display the correct name, otherwise, it will show the generic. Based on the timing involved, I am a bit surprised that it ever shows the correct. But calibre will show the correct name at the bottom of the screen once all this is done. |
