Leacock, Stephen: Northern Light (collected works). v1. 17 Apr 2017

NORTHERN LIGHT
A Collection of the Humorous Writings of
Stephen Butler Leacock (1869-1944)
With a Bibliography and Index of Story Titles

Contents first published 1895 ~ 1946.
The text of this book is in the public domain in countries where copyright is “Life+70” or less.

----------
Stephen Leacock was a Canadian educator, political scientist, writer, and humorist. Between 1911 and 1925 he was so well-known as the world’s greatest humorist that it was said more people had heard of Stephen Leacock than had heard of Canada.

Perhaps his most famous books were “Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town” and “Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich”, two of his many books of humor. He also wrote non-fiction, including books on political science, economics, history, literary criticism, and biographies of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain.

This omnibus, comprised of 25 books, brings you more than 550 stories, essays, and poems from the talented pen of “...Leacock the essentially Canadian humorist, dry and droll, half-clown, half-satirist, whose irony reflects no anger, whose wit is sharp but leaves no sting.” (—J. B. Priestley, Introduction to “The Bodley Head Leacock”.)

Book Titles:
Literary Lapses
Nonsense Novels
Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town
Behind the Beyond
Arcadian Adventures with the Idle Rich

Leacock Lives!

Well Done! If there is a Governor General's Award for anthologies, you should win, hands down.

Excellent! Thank you for the collection.

Where does the title come from? Is it the title of an existing collection? Or did you and Mousewaffle make it up?

Thank you all for the very kind words! Grumbles and Mousewaffle do indeed deserve big thanks.

Mousewaffle coined the title, which very brightly (tee hee) implies both physical light, and lightness of spirit and expression.

As far as I know, this is the most extensive collection ever of Leacock's humor. I hope you all enjoy the book. Leacock deserves to be brought back into the spotlight outside the Canadian borders!
