confusion about which pocket books are newest?

			Hi,

I have been looking at the pocketbooks. it seems that the web page for them is http://www.pocketbook-int.com/us/ (correct me if I am wrong) However in the six inch size they only show the pocket book 602 pro. http://www.pocketbookreader.com show a pocket book 302 which has a touch screen. Why is this not shown on http://www.pocketbook-int.com/us/ ? I am assuming the 302 is newer than the pro 602? Maybe I am not looking at the right sites? I am kind of confused Thanks |

All the pro-devices are the newest ones. They were published around December 2010. Pocketbook 302 is a little bit older.

There is a Pocketbook 603, too, that also has a touch screen. And I hope I don't confuse you too much: Pocketbook 602 and 603 will be replaced by Pocketbook 612 by the end of this year. The content of the different Pocketbook sites vary around the world. Pocketbook Germany (http://www.pocketbook.de/products/) shows three 6" devices: Pro 602, 603 and the 301, which is the oldest of the four devices, but not the 302.

Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about the availability of Pocketbooks in Canada.

But maybe you can have a look into this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=150255 Here you will find the links to three dealers in the USA. Maybe they will ship to Canada. |

The 603/903 were never made available in North America (probably because of the 3g capabilities, as Mr. Dulin pointed out). The non-3g (and non-touchscreen) 602/902 are sold over here. Apparently, the upcoming 612/912 models are just like the 603/903 models but with the 3g hardware removed. So, they should be available in North America when they are released sometime soon.

I would stay away from the old 3XX models. The latest models (6XX, 9XX and 360plus) have a newer software base that is incompatible with the older models. The older models will likely receive fewer and fewer software updates. I bought my 902 from Dulin's Books in the US and had it shipped here to Vancouver without problem. It was shipped by USPS (to avoid the obscene UPS/Purolator brokerage fees) and arrived here in a few days. I wouldn't be nervous about ordering from any of the US distributors (except that the Canadian dollar may drop significantly by the time the 612/912 come out ).Edit: I should add that "touchscreen" on the Pocketbook E-Ink models means a Wacom digitizer. So you have to use a special pen with it; fingers won't work. If you want a finger-friendly touchscreen on E-Ink, you'll need to go with a different brand (like Sony).
