Those smart aleck comments you refer to are usually called snark. Harry is widely known (and loved by many) as being quite snarky. He often comments that he just can't help himself, especially when a snarky remark gets him into more trouble than he was in already.

Easier solution, release the covers so they coincide with the actually books. The hat is wrong and the duster is not leather. So the pictures have multiple mistakes that should have been corrected long ago.
