Does that work? It doesn't seem to to me. The first side of the equation (before the - sign) is 1024, the second side is -6, isn't it (I am normally mathematically challenged, so I could well be wrong here)?

I thought Paul would come up with an answer... That's correct, and one I didn't have, well done.

As a clue to my last one, it starts "888 +" and includes addition, subtraction and multiplication.

It resolves like this:

8x((8x(8+8))-((8+8)/8))-8 = 1000

8x(128-2)-8
(8x126)-8
1008-8 = 1000

Aha. So I misinterpreted the brackets. It doesn't surprise me, I'm often wrong when it comes to maths.

Thanks.

888 + (8+8)x8 - (8+8) = 888 + 16*8 - 16 = 888 + 128 - 16 = 1000

That's almost exactly how I had it written down, and is correct. 2 points to pdurrant, 1 to Fbone and maianhvk, so it's over to you Paul.

Hmm... I suppose it could be written

888 + (8+8)x(8-8/8)

Hmm... a puzzle, a puzzle....

It takes two men using four buckets half an hour to empty a bathtub that's only half full of water.

How long would it take you and one bucket to empty a bathtub that's full of water?

You have the right answer! Why would anyone empty a bathtub with a bucket when they could just pull out the plug?

Over to you.
