MOBI Output Compression?

Is the default MOBI output compression from Calibre the best that can be done? I notice a lot of books I convert from existing PRC or MOBI files can as much as double in size after conversion.

They're probably HuffDic compressed - there is no publicly available code for the compressor, so Calibre can use only the weak PalmDoc compression.

Are you using the --compress command line option? It uses PalmDOC compression, but is slow to run (although I find it acceptable).

The GUI conversion to MOBI does no compression at all.

Nevermind, reading this thread, it seems it doesn't use ANY compression at all:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=36729&page=7

Could an option be added to the GUI for compression in the future? I'd like to see the time vs. space tradoff.

Filed an enhancement ticket http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/ticket/2165.
