MS-DOS?

I couldn't really find anything out about this, but what is the worst thing that could happen if I start playing around on MS-DOS?

I dunno. You might learn something new?

I think it's a great idea to play around with MS-DOS.

MS-DOS other than being an old operating system is fun to play with, someone did tell me that using it on a real fas computer can make it hard to use, but I think it would be fun to try and play an old DOS game like pong in hyper speed :P

There is a hidden "easter egg" text game in MS-DOS. To access it, you type [deleted]

Thats evil! Honestly, you thought that would be funny? Do you know what that command does, I remember it because I used to batch Delete many disks.

Del is self explanatory.
*.* simply means ALL
/s subdirectories
/q that is for a quick format I think, don't remember /q.

I remember when telling people the ctrl + alt + delete together would show them an easter egg, it was just as funny then as it is now.

At times I miss MS-DOS. I was able to configure my system the way that I wanted, including writing an entire menu system that allowed me to access all of my programs with just two keystokes. Added to that were some handy TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs that allow me to do many things without the need to access the DOS prompt. All while using less than 100kb in memory.

/q means "quiet"-- as in, don't ask "do you really, really want to do that?"

Right, so it is still a command to delete everything, not much of an easter egg, at least not one that I would want

The issue with DOS was that you had to remember all the commands, there were a lot of them and Windows 1 (in 1990 3.1 was released the first widespread version) mad remembering these command easier, a little.

All windows versions until Windows 98 were based on MS-DOS

DOS rules! Commander is nice too. Instead of installing 3rd party programs I can shutdown my PC in 5 minutes with a simple line in the commander.

@ardeegee, your "easter egg" is so not funny. If I compare it to the egg from Mortis, it's like the difference between tripping someone in the sand and breaking both his legs with a sledgehammer and laughing at his howling and vain attempts to move closer to the phone in order to call 911.

Personally I think both are a jerk thing to do to someone, but I mentioned mine only as an example, to show just how rotten the trick was.

Almost as evil as setting a desktop screenshot as background and hiding the icons and taskbar
But these are reversible. Deleting the whole HD partition is not really fun.

Not cool. You should never post things like that to someone who's just learning. It's cruel.
