Been Offered a New Aura One
Hello All, My friend bought an Aura One last week but does not like it. She has offered it to me at half price (Friends for 45 years) £90 UK pounds. Would this still be regarded as a usable ereader in this day and age with all the new stuff around please. Many thanks.

My first Aura One lasted 6 months before the USB port died. The second lasted not quite 11 months before the screen died ... today. Neither were abused and while the second was covered under warranty, the first wasn't (they said it was because I had damaged the USB port ... I hadn't). Poor durability isn't unique to Kobo BUT 2 failures in <18 months? That's a problem. Would I buy another Aura One? Nope. Unlike Amazon which offers extended warranties covering ALL aspects of their device, Kobo does not. |

So I'm waiting for the Forma I've pre-ordered (should have it on the 23rd), and meanwhile use the H2O 2 at home and the Clara on the go. My Glo HD is still fine, but I can't synchronise it with the others since it has only 4 Gb, and I like the comfort light at night which is when I do most of my reading timewise. |

These last couple of posts are scaring me. I was all set to cancel my PW 2018 pre-order and get an Aura One instead.

Kobo aura One - KA1 is a top ereader on the market - if you don't need buttons for a page turn.
you shouldn't have second thoughts. |

and in my opinion most of the problems are niceties. P.S. i have Aura HD 5 years old - no problems and KA1 for a year no problems. but on the maximum redlght on KA1 i have uneven red lightening but i can live with that cause i don't use it on max anyway. 30-40% is suitable for me. Yes, get it.
I have the Kobo Aura One and I love it. It has one of the largest size screen reader on the market. |

I've had KA1 since release day with no problems. Not to discount the experience of the posters above, but I think if you could truly canvas all owners that the vast majority haven't had issues and these are the outliers that unfortunately have had issues. There hasn't been massive reports of KA1 issues versus the number of issues that any other reader has (and there are always going to be at least a few issues reported with any device).

Amazon extended warranties, at least in the US, are offered through SquareTrade. If that's your thing you can also buy a SquareTrade warranty on a Kobo (or other Reader or Tablet) directly from SquareTrade, not sure about pricing or specifics.

I won't deny that. My post was specifically responding to the 2 posts specifically being referred to which related to device breakage, not Comfortlight quality.

I have a Kobo Aura One for almost 2 years now. I love it. It is a great reader which gives you everything you need (I know, that is subjective). Battery life is maybe a bit of an issue but I can live with that. The objective specialists, f.i. on goodereader.com, rate this KA1 as top of the line. So get it is my advice.
