Problems getting metadata edits to stay
Hi,
I'm new to this whole thing and I'm guessing I'm not doing something right. It's pretty discouraging though. I thought I edited metadata for over 5000 epubs and it's not staying. These are are my issues: I've been either downloading the metadata through calibre or creating my own. When I put them on my device, the changes don't show. The file names are still the original ones, and the covers don't stay. This is also the case when I moved some books from one calibre library to another. I downloaded some books and edited the metadata on one computer, and then I copied them to my phone and dumped the folder on my laptop. When I added the books to my calibre library on my laptop, the metadata I edited was reverted to the original. I've also tried the option in converting ebooks that is supposed to write the metadata as the front page of the ebook and that didn't work either! HELP! I've already wasted a lot of time doing this. Also, unrelated, but I'm using Aldiko on my phone to read epubs. For some reason Aldiko duplicates my folders, filling up my SD card. Does anyone know why this is happening? I can't find any help issues similar. |

What format are these books -if they are PDF then it is not at all unusual to have problems with Metadata changes being applied.
You mention putting the files on your device. How are you doing this? If you do it using Calibre then teh metadata should be updated. If you do it by copying the files using an OS level facility then the changes will not apply. |

Thanks, that must be what it is. I just copied the files from my Calibre library into a folder on my phone.

Calibre does not updqate the metadata in the library files when you update it in the Calibre metadata database. When you export a file via "Save to Disk" or "Send to Device" the exported file is updated, so if you one of those Calibre commands to put the books on the device you should get versions with updated metadata.

Or for epub, if you get the files via the Content Server.
