Has any had a chance to play with the pdf pan and zoom features of the kindle 3 and how do they compare to older ebook readers?
Thanks still waiting to upgrade my sony prs505. |

PDF pan and zoom is available for all K2 and DX models. It will be unchanged in K3. The previous K1 has no PDF support.
At the moment, only privileged people have access to the K3, which we hope to see ship at the end of the month. What's being added with the K3 is: - dictionary lookup - annotation/highlighting (unclear if it is true PDF annotation/highlighting, or something proprietary, or both) - contrast adjustment to improve readability of material when color is converted to Kindle's greyscale. What's still not there: - PDF reflow - PDF link support (for navigating TOC, endnotes, etc) |

Ok then i was unaware that the kindle 2 had the same feature. So does the pdf pan and zoom feature work better than the prs505 for reading textbooks etc.
And does the zoom feature make everything on the page bigger including pictures and images as the prs505 is hopeless in this area and breaks the flow of the document. |

Amazon says: "Improved PDF Reader: Now with new dictionary lookup, notes and highlights, and support for password protected PDFs." and also reflow is available if you convert the pdf to mobi using their service (which may or may not work...). But nothing about if zoom is changed in any way.

With Kindle 3 already out I'd hate to admit that while Kindle 3 PDF support is there and it is quite good, Sony is still way better in that department.

True. There's some room for improvement, but overall, it's pretty good nevertheless.

Hi,
I do have the Kindle DX and Kindle 3. They both are really good with ability to zoom and pan but reading documents on the small Kindle is not a great experience; the bigger screen on the DX makes it better and almost no need to zoom. You can also use landscape mode that on the DX is almost everything you need. Pages turn are slow in the Kinde DX tought and firmware version on Kindle 3 is newer allowing couple of extra features. |
