I had similar problems with the updated Kindle 4 PC. I noticed that, on at least one occasion, my K4PC gave me a "C++" error before it crashed and burned. I checked, and I had Microsoft's 2005 and 2008 C++ packages, but not the 2010 (latest). I downloaded and installed the appropriate one (for me, Win7 64bit), and the latest version of Kindle 4 PC worked. I've had no trouble since.

You can either use my links if you're the trusting sort, or go straight to Microsoft and do a search on "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package "

Hi all,

I'm running windows xp on a home-made Athlon 2000 mid-tower pc. Kindle was running great until I downloaded the newest version. Now I get: "Sorry but this application has to close." I'm going back to the old version of Kindle.

bilfiore--I don't think the old version of Kindle for PC will work for you. I was using that until a few weeks ago. At that point, I got a message when I opened it that the version I was using had expired and I needed to download the newer version to continue using KforPC. Hope you can figure out what is going on and get it running!

I believe you are right about Amazon forcing the upgrade on us. I uninstalled the new version and tried installing a couple older versions. neither would open. I read that one third of all PCs are still running Windows XP. One would think that Amazon would not want to abandon that many potential users.

Per Amazon's website, http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000426311, the Kindle for PC still works on Windows XP. It seems that there is something going on on your PC that is conflicting. That being said, it's a good idea to upgrade from Win XP if possible. Microsoft quit supporting that, including offering security updates for it at the beginning of this month.
