Nothing like having to scroll several screens of random quotes from Goodreads reviews to find out what the damn book is even about. Usually it makes me hit the back button.

What I cannot stand are review blurbs in book descriptions. They are descriptions, not reviews. So keep the reviews out of the descriptions.

I remove those when downloading the Calibre metadata.

Also, when downloading metadata for older out-of-print paperbooks, for some reason downloading the summary often includes what is probably half the first chapter. Definitely annoying to clean that up.

When you open a book on your reader for the first time and discover it has no working TOC. At all. No, it's not a self-published book; it's a well-known author from a major publisher. Granted, bought 10 years ago or so.
Back to the editor with it... |

Can you go back to the shop you bought this eBook and download it again? It may have been updated since you bought it,

One book my spouse just picked up had (in the order they appeared), a review that took about 15 lines, a 6 line blurb for the book, a bunch of reviews mostly for other books by the same author that took up 340 lines and the complete contents of the prologue and chapter 1 taking about 500 lines. I ended up deleting all but the blurb. Inside the ebook, the cover image, author photo and a couple of other images were all sized at 2250 x 3000. Shrinking them down to more reasonable sizes knocked the book from 14.6MB to 1.2MB.

It was bad when Amazon/publishers started putting part of blurb into book title. But what madness is it to use that exactly as a filename?
I can save a filename with a ":" in it on Linux, but rsync backup will fall over. Note to self: don't just shorten file names but make sure no stupid characters. They should get lessons from Kovid Goyal. |
