PSA regarding possible jailbreak for 7" oasis - DO NOT UPDATE - Page 8

Hi knc1.
Did the JB with the instructions from your mail. I already had a little over 4000 books on the device. It seemed to work. Then I updated from 5.9.0.6 to 5.9.2.0.1. After that the audible book option was available and I could download 5 audible books I had purchased and listen to them.
But since then I have the following problems:
1) My KOA2 often gets very slow or "stuck" after switching between ebooks or trying to add a book to a couple of collections, forcing me to wait for many minutes before it reacts again or I lose patience and I restart the system, which happens 10-20 times a day.
2) KOA2 does not recognize any new books added by direct downloading into the documents folder through USB from a windows computer. They just don't show up in my book selection.
3) KOA2 does not "receive" (e.g. list as "not downloaded") any new books I try to add through Amazon Kindle website. They do show up on my content list on the computer under "manage your content and devices" but no matter how often I try to send them to my KOA2 and hit the synchronize button on my kindle - they never show up. When I go to the kindle shop directly from the KOA2 it says "purchased on date xyz" and only offers the option to "go to library" where that book never shows up.
4) The ONLY way to still get any new books onto my kindle is to send them as ".mobi"-file via email to the kindle's address. Nothing else works.
5) Finaly I updated to 5.9.4. since I figured it couldn't get any worse. It updated well, showing the small message in the tree-picture during boot that indicates the jailbreak is being installed. Now I have 5.9.4. working, and believe it's still jailbroken. But the problems 1-3 still remain.
a) Any idea what I could do to solve problems 1-3 ?
b) If not: any description how to UNDO the jailbreak (with the hope to get rid of the problems) without completely reseting the KOA2 as a new device and than having to reload > 4000 books and the large 5 audiobooks ?

Nope, a reset is required.

The "jail break" is only a single, 256 byte, file that is only referenced when an update_*.bin package is loaded.
Everything else is in user storage and only runs as part of the re-boot procedure, so none of it can be the cause of your problems.

So your problems are from some other cause.

I don't have any of the KOA2 updates loaded, so I can't even begin to guess where your problems are coming from.

Is this your first Kindle?
There are some display options that are not clearly labeled and have changed their behavior from version to version.
If you have any of the older touch screen Kindles, try the same things on them, with the same firmware versions, see if they act differently.

You need to wait for some of the KOA2 owners to speak up.
Mine is still "same as shipped" - for obvious testing of all the new stuff without access to a serial port on it.

I can't help but wonder - is there a way to tell whether my current FW is the one that Kindle shipped with?
My KOA2 is secondhand unit, country of original purchase unknown:
32GB, WiFI+3G
G000 S2 - not in Wiki so far
FW 5.9.2.0.1

Can't do the firmware version.

That isn't the first six characters of the serial number, or it isn't a Kindle.
Your choices for the first character are: 9, B, or G - nothing is known about a serial number that starts with: 2

Build number is 326429021, but factory .bin file gets wiped out, so previous owner must have updated FW....
Bought used in CZ, language was set to Russian, so originally Russia or Ukraine, I guess.

Your correct, it was updated.

I thought it would be in one of the countries without Amazon distribution.
It would be unusual for a device that could be returned, to be on the used market.

I Jailbreaked my touch and voyage before. The Touch was the best but the voyage I never did anything with it other then the screen saver. So I am not to heart broken. I just wish amazon would let us use our own family photos.
