FREE/BARGAIN stickies
Why aren't all the FREE/BARGAIN threads sticked? It makes no sense that some are and some are not. They should all be stickied.

Cooking isn't because of the self published books that are featured.

It's more a choice of trying to limit the number of stickies and deciding to not sticky the ones that aren't quite as active as some of the others. |

There are FIVE FREE/BARGAIN threads on the first page of this forum that are not stickied. That means there are five ACTIVE threads not sticked that should be sticked.

I've always thought MR's approach to Sticky threads was a bit bass-ackwards, myself. Popular/Active threads don't actually need to be stickied. Their own popularity will automatically keep them near the top of the heap. Conversely, threads that don't generate enough activity to stay on the first page probably shouldn't be artificially propped up by stickying them.
I'm of the opinion that the best candidates for stickies, are posts that contain important information that rarely changes. Stickying highly active, constantly evolving threads that see a lot of participants (and as a consequence, remain near the top of the heap naturally) is a bit silly I think. I'd unsticky almost every single active thread that is currently stickied if were up to me. Luckily for many ... it's not entirely up to me. Just know that I'm a hard lobbyist for waaaaaaaay less than we currently have. EDIT: Also ... more stickies means less page space for normal threads. What's the point of having to go to the second page of a forum to see the most recent posts (in popular non-sticky threads)? Last edited by DiapDealer; 09-13-2017 at 06:56 PM. |

Self-published is allowed in the other threads if the poster has read that author. |

I have no clue how many stickies there are. My bookmarked link to the forum from my desktop is just new posts (with some exclusions), or "unread" in Tapatalk.

Huh, that's an odd reason.
It totally depends on the thread as in general that "rule" was set up depending on who originally set up the specific thread years ago (and sometimes after discussion among the participants) when we were doing them monthly and thus varies. The Romance thread has no such requirement. Last edited by AnemicOak; 09-13-2017 at 10:37 PM. |

Wasn't it just a few years back that a lot of extra stickies were created? And when they were rolled out, people lobbied for yet more stickies if their favorite categories hadn't made the cut. I remember a push for the audiobook category to have a sticky.
I think there are far too many, for reasons others have already stated. Active categories don't need them; inactive categories just take up space. And I still think audiobook deals should be moved to the audiobook forum. |

It's totally unfair that only some threads are stickied Either all the FREE/BARGAIN threads get stickied or none of them do. That would solve the problem.
Why is it only some are stickied? Who decided which ones got stickied and which ones did not? Why were the ones not stickied not stickied? Was it because of who created the thread? |

None are at being "discriminated against". There is no conspiracy. Being stickied is not an "honor" being bestowed/denied. Stickied threads are not "winners."
It would be silly to sticky everything based solely on whether or not a certain phrase was present in the title. We're not going to sticky all (or unsticky all) "FREE/BARGAIN" threads just to satisfy your personal sense of forum feng shui. Which specific FREE/BARGAIN threads are you having difficulty finding that stickying would remedy? Or is this just an aesthetic beef? |
