Libraries and DRM

I do not wish do break any rules/guidelines, so ...

From the guidelines:
Quote:
... Advocating DRM removal from Library books is not permitted.
I believe that moderator(s) have posted that it is a fact that DRM can be removed from library books, and that it is OK to state it as a fact. I have also seen posts of people stating that they do remove DRM from library ebooks (without any moderator warnings).

The following post was made:
Quote:
Do you have a public library that has Overdrive? If you do and you want to be able to borrow eBooks for free, forget the Kindle. They aren't compatible. That leaves you with ePub compatible Readers such as Kobo.
Would either of the following be acceptable replies (wouldn't break the rule/guideline), if any:

A) You can in fact get the library ebook from your library and read it on your reader
B) You could read the library book on your ereader, but you would need to strip the DRM

Thanks.

Thank you for your question. After discussion, the guidelines have been updated.

Advocating ebook piracy is not permitted. Detailed discussion of DRM removal is not permitted.

But there is now no specific restriction on discussion of DRM and library books.

Thanks, Paul. This makes it clearer for those of us who do NOT pirate books, but live outside the US where public libraries don't have a choice of formats.
