Howard is lucky to find himself one of the few survivors immune to the infection, but he and his fellow inmates learn something far more sinister and terrifying also has emerged from the mine. The truly lucky ones are already dead.

That describes 99% of the free ebooks listed. The rating system has become nearly useless.

While I understand the implication, how else can a rating system possibly work?
Everyone with a billion reviews had to start somewhere.
How else would you do it? Keep all user ratings private until that user posts a few dozen?? Require a resume of criticism beforde allowing reviews?

As long as it's easy enough to see that this is the only review for those folks, and so you can jump to your own conclusions about that, what's the problem? Soon some real readers will come and it will start to average out.

I don't think a rating system really does work well. And I can not think of a way to improve it so that it does.

At least with free ebooks the ratings are not necessary.
