Freeman, R. Austin: John Thorndyke's Cases. v1. 3 12 2019
R. Austin Freeman (1862-1943) was a medical practitioner forced to retire in 1904 because of ill health. He wrote many detective novels and short stories, some with other authors.
John Thorndyke's Cases was published in England in 1909, and in the USA in 1931 as Dr. Thorndyke's Cases. It contains a Preface, and eight short stories which 'illustrate ... the application to the detection of crime of the ordinary methods of scientific research.' The text was taken from Project Gutenberg Australia, and checked against the Delphi Classics version. I have silently corrected typos, curled quotation marks, used British English, and made changes to spelling, punctuation, and hyphenation using the Collins online dictionary. Wow that sounds like quite a bit of work!
I'm surprised that an Australian edition (which I presume PGAus based their version on) would use other than British English... |

It seems to me that there are several versions of British Englih - some which use to-morrow and so on, and some which don't. |
