EEK! 30 copies of an unknown authors work? Or is it a twitter thing?

The VPL has only 1-2 copies each for the Harry Potter series and a hold list for each. What's up with that?

Wow! At the rate some people read (and taking into account persons who don't utilize the early return option), I can't begin to imagine when the 347th person will get the book.

I'm almost certain the 30 copies would be a twitter thing, as you say. A lot of libraries are probably now scrambling to add more copies.

But why? Will they go out of business or have their grants reduced if they do not have the latest trend? Are they afraid of looking like librarians? I'm afraid to ask how may copies of 50 shades of Grey they have.

Some day an English prof will get tenure calling it a framing device.

Here's another case:

As far as I can see, it would be impossible in today's publishing world to have a pseudonym and not provide a necessarily fictional bio squib.

How can anyone think that this was supposed to be a secret when the bio stated "'Robert Galbraith' is a pseudonym"?

The way it was uncovered:
Quote:
As it turns out, one of The Sunday Times’ writers had read The Cuckoo’s Calling recently and tweeted her appreciation of the book. Shortly after, an anonymous person replied to her on Twitter and told her that J.K. Rowling was the real author.

When the editor replied to the Twitter user asking “How do you know for sure?” the user said “I just know,” and then proceeded to delete all of their tweets as well as the account.

From there, The Sunday Times decided to dig. They connected the dots between the publisher and editor of The Casual Vacancy and The Cuckoo’s Calling (they’re the same), and sent the two books plus Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to linguistic experts who found “significant similarities” between the three.

Quote:
Kate Mills, fiction editor at Orion Books, admitted she had turned down the crime novel, which she described as "well-written but quiet".

"So, I can now say that I turned down JK Rowling. I did read and say no to Cuckoo's Calling. Anyone else going to confess?" she tweeted.
The context for the "well-written but quiet" remark:
Quote:
I thought this was well-written but quiet. And how do you get momentum for that? Oh wait...

Won't be that long, e-libraries can easily add more copies when the hold list grows. My library added 40 copies today, so I started reading the ebook this afternoon. Very good so far, character driven with a focus on relationships and not nearly as campy as the character descriptions and names would suggest.

I agree. Maybe she had no other way but to write under a pseudonym. This would have been too much for some people.
