Is Firmware update neccessary?
Does all eReader need (official) firmware update from time to time?
(what if you don't wi-fi or go online using your device, and only transfer ebooks by USB? ) Is update firmware easy to do? like moving files from PC to USB stick? |

I've never had to update the firmware on any of my Sony readers. I can't speak for any of the others.

Firmware updates are generally a combination of bug fixes and adding new features. If the bugs don't bother you, and you aren't interested in the new features, then no, they certainly aren't necessary.

Although I think the Nook Color will eventually download and install updates automatically.
