Kindle 2 Shortcut Thread!

So I didn't see one of these around, but figured we should have one...

So far, we know:

1.) alt+g refreshes the screen
2.) The up arrow + SYM button turns on/off Text To Speech.

Any other super useful shortcuts you guys know of for the Kindle 2?

As long as they work in Kindle 2, then yes, Kindle 1 shortcuts are good. Thanks for that one!

Alt+shift+G creates a screenshot (on the Kindle 1 they end up in the base directory of the SD card).

Alt+shift+1-9 changes the spacing and number of lines per page

Does Alt-Font no longer sleep the device? you have to use the switch now?

you have to use the switch because its physically on the top edge of the device. So you don't have to take the device out of the cover to use the power switch/slider. So, Alt-Font does not wake your device anymore.

Ah... so does the slider show the "screen saver" or blank the screen? On my K1 alt-font shows the screen saver buy On-Off switch blanks the screen.

Is there a shortcut key to turn on and off the wireless?

the slider shows the screen saver.

You can power off the device by holding the power slider for 5 sec (check user guide).

you can toggle wireless by using the menu, its the first option on the menu.

unless you have a subscription that automatically downloads to your device, i think you can just leave the wireless option off.

inside picture viewer:

e = reset zoom level

when the picture exceeds the screen, you can use the 5-way to pan.

Leaving the wireless off eventually causes your recently accesses items to go to the end of the list rather than the beginning after about a day or so (Kindle stops timestamping them.)

hm... that's pretty lame (that Kindle stops timestamping after it loses its clock)...

Yeah, it was pretty weird when I looked at the files via USB and saw no creation or modification timestamp on them.

A couple of other tricks, not really shortcuts:

1. Holding down the next/prev page button or clicking them multiple times will cause Kindle 2 to turn several pages at once. Unfortunately, it's very slow while it does this; it'll update the page on the first page-turn and then just sit for a bit depending on how many pages you clicked. It's a pretty crude implementation that's more guesswork than anything useful.

2. If you're in author or title sort, you can click one letter on the keyboard and press the 5-way and go immediately to the place on the list with the first author or title under that letter alphabetically, *but only if that match exists*. So if you have no Q's, you can't get to the R's that way. Sadly this doesn't work at all in the Most Recent First listing, I guess because they don't know if they should match Title or Author (if only it gave you one or the other I'm be very happy).

The Alt-1 shortcut in Browser to access the "you are here" functionality in Google Maps is gone. Does anyone know if there's any way at all of accessing this functionality on a K2, even without shortcuts? I can get to Google Maps of course, but I don't know how to get it to triangulate my position without that K1 shortcut that no longer works.
