Do you subscribe to cable or satellite TV?

Because all of us are readers, I suspect that we watch much less television than most people. I often feel out of touch with what I read about popular culture, but I don't feel like I am missing anything.

So I thought I would start a poll to see how uninterested in TV we here are.

I just switched from direct TV (satellite) to cable. Direct TV was a little rude to me over the phone when I had a question so I told them to shut the crap off.

I would have been just as happy without either of them but the wife and kids told me they were moving out if I got rid of the TV.

We like in a rural area where cable is not an option. I installed DirectTV over 15 years ago as a gift for my spouse. At the time, DirectTV offered many more "channels", particularly the option to get both west-coast and east-coast (USA) feeds for the premium channels such as HBO and Showtime. Now, cable offers that as well as many "on demand" options, but we've stuck with our satellite provider and probably would not elect to go to cable even if it were available.

I have cable though I decided to drop it last week when I realized I had been tuned to the weather channel for 3 hours.

I'm keeping cable broadband though.

I have cable, but wish there were a better alternative. My family are auto racing fans, and the only way to subscribe to the Speed channel is with a higher-level package - way more channels than we watch or need. DirectTV forces the same higher-level package.

Sometimes I watch, sometimes the TV is on just for "company". I don't buy any premium cable channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.), but I do like the special cable channels like Discovery, National Geographic (and yes, occasionally trash-TV like Bravo!)

I watch tons of television, but have only basic cable. The only reason I have cable at all is so that I can have cable internet-- my connection is a steady 25 megabits per second down, 2 megabits per second up (that's where my tons of TV come from.)

I watch loads of television, but we have so much free to air stuff, I can barely keep up with it. Why would I pay $79 per month for more crap. (And it is crap, no better than the free to air stuff)

No to both cable and satellite, as both options are too expensive, plus I don't want to pay for all of the channels I have no interest in. I would love an ala carte option where I could just pay for the Food Channel, Animal Planet (Discovery?), History Channel and HGTV, oh and the Sci-Fi Channel! If they ever went to such a plan, it would be my luck that the ala carte options would be more expensive and cheaper to get the all-inclusive junk option!

I used to get cable for free in my last apartment. I don't have it now, and don't miss it. Of the shows I enjoy, I can get all of them on the free-to-air channels (with an antenna) but one, which I watch on-line. But I watch a lot less TV than I used to. A year in a foreign country with 5 tv stations all of them showing last year's American and Australian prime time drama cured me a bit of my TV habit
