Let's get some summer feeling here! I live in Munich and summer in Munich usually (not now, since it's raining!) means:

beergardens


"eisbach-surfers" (people surfing on a small but quite rapid creek which is located in a park)


lots of skaters


and a lazy sunday at one of the lakes

Ah, hot time..summer in the city...back of my neck feeling....

Well it's British Summertime (which means three or maybe four days of actual sunshine), and in Britain there's nothing more beautiful than the sights we see in summer, especially in our cities.

Most possibly Truth be told that could be any night in any town or city in Britain in any season (Damn, we're a shameful bunch we are).

We have an international fireworks competition every summer. Canada and 3 other countries put on a fantastic display. Tirsales would love it!!!

The fireworks are set off on a barge in English Bay. People show up early to get a good position. Attendance has reached 400,000.

Boats of all kinds come into the harbour to get a ring side seat. Helicopters and planes are overhead for those who can afford the view from above. 3 or 4 cruise ships are in the harbour waiting for the fireworks to end before they sail.

All of the high-rise apartments and condos have their balconies crowded with onlookers.

There are so many good images it was hard to select only a few.

Yes, I should have mentioned that.
And the show is called the Celebration of Light (formerly the Symphony of Fire)

They set off the fireworks in time to music that is broadcast over the local radio. At one time it was all great classical music, but some modern tunes have crept in.

in paris, in summertime, the mayor dumps a lot of sand along the banks of the seine and calls it "Paris Plage" ("paris beach"). People go there to sunbathe, listen to concerts, swim in the swimming pools they build on the river (because almost no-one is crazy enough to swim *in* the river...), and pretend they are on holiday.





also in summer, there is a free outdoor cinema festival in a park called La Villette, with an inflatable screen. people go early and have a picnic dinner, and when it gets dark you watch the film. the shows are cancelled if it rains.





there are a lot of concerts in that same park, every sunday. also many concerts and shows in a festival called "paris quartier d'été".

basically, there is a lot of stuff going on to help us forget that most of the city has shut down and all of our friends have left for holidays somewhere else, and there's almost no-one left here but tourists.

We have a fireworks competition, every Saturday from June to August.
We have a Jazz Fest (ongoing).
We have at least three different movie festivals, this one being my favorite.
We have Just for Laughs Festival.
We have the Old Port, two downtowns (one English, one French) with their specialties, we have an island park for outside shows (from Osheaga fest to small electronic bands) and a mountain right in the middle of the city, with an artificial lake for more outdoor activities.
And an enormous park in the east of the town, half of which is occupied for the botanical garden, the other for locals to lounge, bike, play games or bbq.

Montréal in the summer: it's people everywhere, a see of people, as far as you can see, all relaxed and fairly happy. It's the town to be in the summer!

you know, i wouldn't have thought it would be possible in such a short time to make up for the 9 months of the year when you are buried under 5 meters of snow, but i'm really impressed by your efforts !

if you want to be a tourist in paris, the airport is that way !
