"Dr Thorndyke" now complete
I'm pleased to report that I've just uploaded a thoroughly proof-read version of the final volume of my "Complete Dr. Thorndyke" series. It's taken me slightly over 4 years to get the whole thing done, but the results are, I hope, worthwhile. "Dr. Thorndyke" is one of my favourite fictional detectives, although it would perhaps be more accurate to call him a forensic scientist rather than a detective in the traditional sense.
The books were originally published between 1907 and 1942, and there are a total of 22 novels and 5 short story collections, plus a couple of essays by the author. I've collected them into 7 omnibus volumes, arranging the books in published order. It's as well to read them in order, because many characters recur between books, and earlier cases are often referred back to. Kindle (Mobipocket) versions are at: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12821 ePub versions are at: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75389 I hope that other people enjoy these books as much as I do. The "Dr Thorndyke" books were enormously popular in the early decades of the 20th century but he's one of those fictional characters who has faded from the popular consciousness. It's a shame, because I think they are really excellent books.

Very nice of you.
Raymond Chandler was a big fan of his work, that's actually how I heard of him in the first place...but until I got an e-reader, I could never read him (since libraries don't carry this sort of stuff anymore. At least the one in my area doesn't...) |
