Lost opf files when moving files to a new library

I moved files to a new library and I noticed that the OPFs were deleted and not moved. I haven't noticed this before and I done this many times. Is this normal behaviour? The jpg and file move ok.

Thanks

Do you mean, you used the calibre option to "Copy to library" ==> "____ (delete after copy)" and there is no OPF in the new library?

Or you moved the library itself? In which case, did you move it via the File Browser, and if so, were any programs accessing the calibre library folder at the time?

(calibre does have its own Move Library feature, in the Select Library dialog.)

Yes thats the case.

Anyhow I discovered the answer. I hadn't opened the new library. When I do the opf files are recreated. They are not copied over.

@theaccountant - if you did not 'copy' all the custom columns then if the 'old' opf files were copied then they would contain junk data, hence they're not copied.

I think you'll find that 'new' junk free opf files are being created in the background - look at Library Maintenance->Library metadata backup status. Ah-ha - I see you already found that

Maybe they're never copied, custom column select-ability is a fairly recent new feature, Kovid may have decided that opf recreation would be a safer option in all cases.

Well then, that is all right. Since all the metadata is first and foremost in the database, calibre is taking its own sweet time about writing the OPF backups.

I suppose calibre *could* write an OPF based on the metadata it does transfer over, which would help in the extremely unlikely case that the other library's database gets irreparably corrupted sometime in between the transfer and the very first time you open it.
