Anyway to Remove ToC search fcn? - FIXED
So when I open the table of contents in an epub and then go to a chapter, the viewer opens that chapter but the active window remains the ToC. My issue is that I use the keyboard to change pages and currently like using the arrow keys as shortcuts for page turns. The problem is that whenever I use the ToC to change chapters and then try and turn the page with an arrow key, the search bar in the table to contents is activated and shows the list of previous ToC searches instead of turning the page in the book. The only way for me to prevent this is to mouse click on the viewer window to make it active and then use my arrow keys to turn pages.
Is there anyway to remove the search bar in the ToC? Or alternatively, code the viewer so that whenever a ToC selection is made that the active window automatically switches back to the viewer window? Thanks for any assistance. Last edited by slantybard; 07-24-2022 at 12:21 PM. |

Mac OS 12.4 Whenever I open the ToC window, the ToC search bar is active with a blinking cursor. Clicking on a chapter title moves the book to that entry but the ToC window and its search bar remains active focus. |

If keyboard focus (insert cursor) is 'stuck' in the search box try tapping Tab twice. That works in Windows - tabs to the search button, and then to the book text.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tab trick did not work unfortunately.
I am attaching a screenshot showing how the toc window stays active and the search panel is the focus. |

Ah-ha - with a floating ToC Box the Tab trick doesn't work in Windows either. Repetitive Tabs just bounce focus back and forth between the text box and the search button.
Try docking the ToC, and then do a couple of Tabs. BR |

I didn't even realize that my ToC could and couldn't be docked. When I docked the ToC, the behaviour changed to what Kovid was talking about earlier - when using the ToC now, the focus no longer shifts to the ToC search panel when selecting chapters. Thank you so much for that suggestion to dock the ToC!
