It's just a K4 in a black casing. The old one had a silver-grey casing.

My K4 is very safe. I see nothing from this new batch of Kindles that would get me to upgrade.

Yes but it's a different Unit. The $69 unit is newer and has more fonts and supposedly better text. I'll hold my breath on that one.
It's also 2GB instead of 1.25GB.

Yes, there are models from both companies I am impressed with. The Kobo Mini looks cute, and the Kindle models look good too, I still think my K4 is what I like the best though. I've only had it a month, and I really love it.

If I need to buy more out of necessity the new models are cool to choose from.

Yep no Audio they are pushing that for the Tablets. It's now only a eReader once again.

I've been waiting for *somebody* to do 16x10 readers for a couple years now.
I checked the specs on the FIRE HD9 and it's 9.4in by 6.4in by .35in and 20 ounces. That is the same size as a hardcover I have next to me but way thinner. It is also 1 ounce heavier than a Kindle DX2. (I'm pretty sure that one is out of production and living out of stock.)

Tempting, tempting.
